Battle on Anderson Avenue (finished but not edited) 12701 words
I didn't know what I was running from but I just kept running. My instinct was almost never wrong and it told me I was in trouble. Off to the left I saw large bush, without thinking I leaped in the direction of the bush. It didn't realize that leaping into the first bush you saw was a bad idea until the thorns on the bush stuck in my body. I sat there motionless in the bush trying to hear the footsteps of what was chasing me. A good ten minutes passed before I realized that my instinct was wrong, nothing was chasing me. I stood up and brushed majority of the thorns off of me and started home. I got home around 11 at night, the house was completely dark. “Jack?” I called while turning on the lights in the hall. I walked down the hall to see my roommate, Jack Gregorys, sitting on the floor with his cat, Domino, on his lap. “Oh, hey buddy.” he replied looking up at me. His messy black hair was covered by burgundy hoodie. His clothes were wrinkled and his expression was plain as always. Jack's cat Domino was a black cat with white feet, ears, and white tail tip. “So what are you sitting in the dark for?” I asked while helping him up. “I don't really know..” Jack responded. The cat gracefully leaped out his arms before coming over and attacking my feet, or her way of telling me it was feeding time. Then I walked over and got Domino's food out and fed her. “Thanks for feeding Domino Toby, I think she's finally starting to like you!” he added. Jack thanked me again for feeding Domino and went to his room for the night. I walked over to the window above the sink, the world outside looked so calm and lifeless. It was around midnight and I had class tomorrow morning so I walked to the bathroom and changed my clothes and did the rest of my nightly routine. I looked up at myself in the mirror, my light green eyes looked back at me, and my blonde-ish brown hair was covered with thorns from the bush, my face was scratched and a little bloody too. There must not have been light enough for Jack to see. I cleaned my face off and I looked normal again. My nose was covered with freckles and my skin looked undamaged. I walked over to my bed and laid down, I heard Domino pawing at my door, I ignored it, I was too tired to care. Then I went to sleep still shaken from earlier that night.
“Toby! Toby! Wake up! I can't find Domino!” Jack came in my room screaming. I jumped and turned to him with an annoyed face. “Uh oh,” Jack started, “whenever you crinkle your nose I know your about to yell at me for something. Y'know what you get ready for class I'll search for Domino you go get your college education.” “Thank you, I'll help you search after class.” I said shooing him out of my room. I sighed, Jack was nice but he was he cat-crazed and very weird at times. I got dressed quickly and grabbed my books, I didn't have enough time to eat breakfast at home so I ran to the cafeteria. I attend Mandrake College in Massachusetts. Mandrake College is a small college for people wanting to be photographers or photo editors, of course photo classes weren't the only classes there. I ran into the cafeteria and grabbed a bagel. I broke off a piece and ran to honors geometry. The class felt like it took forever, after an hour the class was over and I had two hours until my next class. I took this time to walk around campus with my girlfriend, Jade Turner. Jade's brown-ish red hair was tied back in a pony tail and she was smiling as always. Her personality was sweet, caring, but had a bad temper sometimes. “Toby Conroy it looks like something's troubling you. Remember Mr. Conroy you can tell me anything, and tomorrow I'll be going back to my home in South Carolina for fall break so please say something so I won't be worried.” Her green eyes looked at me, they looked concerned. She only called me 'Mr. Conroy' or said my full name when she mad or concerned. She grabbed my arm and came closer. I was hesitant to tell her, I didn't want to worry her but I didn't want to keep things from her. I figured it would be best to tell her that what had happened last night was just a bad dream. Jade looked at me, I could tell that she hated me seeing worried. I told her quickly. After she responded, “If you have anymore problems just call or text me and we can talk about.” Then she turned and ran to class. “I hope that was just a bad dream.” I whispered to myself while walking to my next. The feeling that something was chasing had come back, I looked around, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I felt something attack my feet. I looked down to randomly see Domino. I gently picked up the black and white cat. “Jack's probably worried sick about you, I don't know how you got out but now I have to take you back and then I'll be late to class.” I gently shook my head and started jogging home with a pile of books and a cat in my arms. I got home and put Domino down and fed her. Jack wasn't home so I left him a note saying I found Domino on campus. As soon as I put the pen down I was overcome with sleepiness. I glanced at the clock it was 10 am, my next class started in 15 minutes I was 10 minutes away if I ran so laid down on the couch for a 5 minute nap.
“Hmm what time is it?” I asked myself slowly sitting up. As if right on cue I heard a soft voice answer “2pm Toby, 2pm.” “Who's there? If you don't come out know you're gonna get it! Jack if that's you stop this nonsense!” I got out of bed and followed the voice, I walked all around the house looking for the source. “Maybe Jade snuck in while I was asleep, yeah it's gotta be her she was probably worried when I missed those classes.....I MISSED THREE CLASSES just to bring that stupid cat home! Jack better give me a reward!” I yelled at myself. For the next few minutes I paced back and forth cursing myself over and over. After cursing myself several times I started looking for the source of the voice again. I walked around the house several times, no one was home except for me and Domino. “Guess I'm sick, I'm hearing voices.” I said to myself quietly while putting the back of my hand on my forehead. It wasn't feverish. I started to the kitchen to get Domino and myself some food. I had just put the cat's food down when the door opened. Jack and Jade came running in. Jack immediately ran towards Domino when he saw her. He mumbled some words to the cat but I couldn't tell what he was saying. Jade ran over to me and hugged me. “Are you sick? You weren't at class.” she asked. “I don't know.” I told her. “Well, I have to go finish packing and then fly home,” Jade started, “Toby please just call if anything's bothering you please Toby please. You know I'd fly back here in a heartbeat if you wanted me too.” “I'll be fine. But if something does happen I'll call you now hurry you're gonna miss your flight.” I said bringing her in for a quick hug and kiss on the cheek. I could tell that what I just said relieved her a little because her expression looked loving. Jack finally got away from his cat to say goodbye. Jack turned to me his expression was grateful. He didn't need to say anything knowing I had helped him was enough. He mouthed thank you and went to his room. I waited for him to give me some type of reward since I missed three freaking classes, but my reward never came. I paced around in the kitchen before deciding what food would be my little reward. I choose one of the many red velvet cupcakes Jade had made me before she left. I grabbed three of the cupcakes. They red top was covered with a swirl of white frosting with heart sprinkles. I ate them quickly, I hadn't realized what a great baker Jade was before, well, you learn new things every day. After watching some movies on TV and wasting time on Tumblr and Twitter I decided to call it a night. I changed into something comfy to sleep in, I turned off the lights, pulled the covers up, and closed my eyes. After a few peaceful moments of silence, the voice was back. “Toby,Toby Conroy, come play with me, I hope you listen to me or else Miss Jade Turner might be in some deep trouble.” the voice said. Something about it was different this time it was an higher voice, and more threatening sounding. My hands flew to the sides of my head, gripping my hair tightly. I shook my head back and forth, but the voice echoed in my mind. “ ..or else Miss Jade Turner might be in some deep trouble.” “No.... no no no no no no! Don't you dare even think about hurting my Jade!” Now I was yelling at something I wasn't even sure was there. “Whoa dude what's wrong?” Jack yelled knocking on my door, “you ok Toby?” “uh-huh” I responded quietly,” Sorry Jack just a bad dream.” I said embarrassed. “Just call Jade tell her what happened you said you'd tell her if something happened and if you wanted her back.” “You were eavesdropping?” Jack opened the door and mouthed sorry. I sighed, “I don't wanna deprive her of her family, family's more important in the end and she just got there I don't want to make her come right back after just arriving.” “Well night Toby, oh yeah if you don't fall asleep within the next half an hour or so could you feed Domino.....but only if you don't fall asleep.....you know what I'll go feed her nigh.” Jack left and I turned the lights back out again. Before I knew it the voice was back threatening me again. After a while the voice almost seemed to start singing me a lullaby. I was too tired at the time and didn't see just how creepy this situation was.
I woke up much earlier than usual. I picked up my iphone, 6:15. the little sunshine that was out was a pretty site to see. Moments like these we
re the ones I treasured. I wished Jade was with me at this moment so I took a picture of the sunlight coming through the light layer of fog and sent it to her. It was the first day of break and I was up early. I walked into the kitchen and made myself some toast before feeding Domino. Domino ate her food quickly, I extended my hand out to pet her hand. “Why didn't you play with me last night Toby? Why?....Why? You don't want Jade getting hurt do you?” the cat said. I opened my mouth to scream, but no sound came out. Then suddenly Domino let out a giggle and grew into the size of a human girl. “Sh-sh-sh-shape shifter.” I muttered. Domino stood up and looked down on me as I sat on the ground in awe, I thought shape shifters never existed. “Now you see my true form. Now get me some clothes!” Domino commanded. I sat on the ground ignoring her order so I could study her a little longer. Apparently when you shape shift only your underwear goes with you, but it's much better than nothing. Domino's hair was white with a little sliver here and there, usually when you think of white hair you think old but it was beautiful, like anime white hair. And her hair was a little longer than her shoulders. Her eyes were a light blue, her skin was flawless. “Did you hear me?” Domino asked angrily. I told her that I didn't have any girl clothes here so we would have to buy some. “But I'm only buying you stuff if you come with me as a cat you can't walk around only wearing that.” I pointed to her stomach, I felt it was the best place to point rather than the crotch or chest. She looked down examining what little clothes she had on, “I suppose that's the best way.”. She replied a little embarrassed. Then she turned back into the Domino I was familiar with. And before I knew it I was back home after spending $200+ dollars on clothes for a shape shifter that was a cat 90% of the time. When we got home she changed and came back to the living room. “Were you the one talking to me those few nights?” I asked nervously. She nodded. “Does anyone else know about this?” She shook head. “I will explain why reason for being here later.” Domino added before walking to the kitchen and helping her self to some tea. “Damn it...” I muttered. “Say something?” “Well Jade can't come here if you're in this form so I'll just tell her about this.” “You can't tell her.” “Why? She's my girlfriend we share everything!” “I will tell you this , don't ever see Jade again. I forbid you she is a demon she will kill, demons hate shape shifts.” “Why are you telling me you're the shape shifter.” Domino smiled, sat down, and sipped her yea quietly. I had so many questions to ask but it seemed like she didn't want to talk. “Oh yeah, I almost forgot,” Domino started, “Domino was the name Jack gave me, but my real name is Cloud.” “Cloud I like it, then from now on you're only Domino when your a cat.” Cloud smiled and nodded. “Well Jack should be back so hide the clothes in your closet.” I nodded and sighed, before I hiding the clothes while she went back to cat form. I never knew Jack's cat had such a secret and now I was the only one who knew about the secret. I wonder what she meant about Jade though. Jade's stayed over numerous times and nothing happen to her. Cloud must be lying but why would she lie after sharing her biggest secret with me? As I sat pondering about this Domino strolled in and purred loudly while rubbing against my legs. I looked down at her, I saw her differently now. Why would she wanna be a cat instead of a human? Was this all for me? But I'm taken. Frustrated and confused I looked down at Domino trying to tell her I still had questions without saying words. Jack was up now and was studying. I knew she understood me because the cat winked at me as she left the room.
“Toby? Can you do me a favor?” a worried Jack asked. “Sure what's up dude?” I said looking up from my studies. “Apparently my great-aunt, Anita, is dying and she's requesting me, I haven't seen in her since I was a baby so....But what I'm really asking is can you watch Domino until I come back. I don't know how long I'll be gone but I'll be back in time for class.” “Sure Jack I'll watch her.” Jack nodded gratefully before running to his room to quickly pack his things and drive across state. Although this is a bad situation for Jack but now Domino can walk around house in 'Cloud form'. And I'll be able to ask her questions. Within an hour Jack was gone and Domino was asking to change into Cloud. “You can't leave to house in Cloud form so you have to be a cat when I'm not home or come with me on a cat leash.” She sighed, “I'll take the leash, much better than being here alone.” I went to Jack's room and found Domino's cat harness. I put it on her and we walked around campus. I showed her the buildings and told her about myself a little too. “Uh..Toby,” she started. “I told you no talking silly cat.” “But I have to crap and I can't go in front of you and there's no litter box.” She looked up at embarrassed. I sighed, “Use the ladies' room then....oh crap you never have, have you? Fine I'll go with you in front of the sinks turn into Cloud then I'll instruct you from the stall beside yours. ” I couldn't believe I was doing something this risky for a cat. We entered quickly so we weren't seen. “Ok now Domino.” I said quietly. Right as I finished my sentence my classmate, Athena came in the bathroom. Domino looked up mid-transform and saw Athena, she gasped. Athena turned to me, putting all attention on me before wondering about the growing cat behind me. Domino finished transforming into Cloud and hide behind me. “Toby you pervert sneaking in the girls' bathroom. And why is she half naked?” Her voice was furious. “Where are your clothes you had them last time?” I asked Cloud softly. “They got to big so I hid them under the couch.” She replied. “Let me explain Athena, please.” I begged. “No let me explain!” Cloud interrupted. “You saw my change so now you know my secret too. I'm a shape shifter, now, I have to pee, Toby a little help here.” She said turning from Athena to me before walking to a stall. I blushed I didn't want to help her do this in the first place and now I had to do it with a girl watching. Athena giggled before bursting into laughter. “You're still a perv but I'll help you, but only because I know what's-her-face's secret. Now shoo remember this is the girls' room!” I blushed again before hurrying out. A few minutes later Athena came out of the bathroom with Cloud back as Domino, they were laughing. “Glad you made a friend.” Domino nodded and meowed goodbye to Athena.
Cloud hasn't been in Domino form for three days now. To be honest it's kinda worrying me, what if she doesn't wanna go back when Jack returns. I sat on my bed worrying about all the 'what ifs'. After a few minutes of worrying I knew I needed to talk to someone I called Jade and she said she'd be returning earlier than planned because her parents caught the flu and she can't get sick. As mush as I love Jade, I can't let her come home yet. I heard Cloud singing loudly in the living room, I was glad she was happy but she seemed too comfy as a human. “Toebee! Come 'er come 'er quick look look look!” An excited Cloud yelled. I took my time walking to the living room were she was. I was hesitant to see what she was excited about. She jumped up and down pointing at the TV. She was watching a show about bunnies, and apparently bunnies look cuter when you're a human. According to her when you're a cat all you want to do is eat the bunny. I went over to the couch and laid down. I felt like I was living with a five year. I really needed some quiet alone time to study, or nap, and do other important stuff. I called the only person who I knew could help me, Athena. Fortunately she picked up her cell phone and agreed to 'babysit' Cloud. About ten minutes later she arrived at the door. “Thanks for helping on such short notice.” I said to her. “Well, I didn't have anything to do so I figured why not.” I called Cloud over and told her to go with Athena. And within ten minutes Cloud and Athena were gone. For the first time in what seemed like ages I was alone. Back when Jack left on short notice I was glad I was stuck with Domino/Cloud but now that she refuses to go back to being a cat, to answer my questions, and to listen to me, I'm kinda frustrated. Well all that matters now is that is that I have time to myself. I took this time to walk around campus and take some pictures for my photography class. While walking around trying to find some appealing scenery to photograph. I ran into my friend, Mason. We've known each other since high school we both took Latin and on the Latin class's trip to Greece, we were roommates. He had short brunette hair, and hazel eyes. Mason was a your average kid, nothing really that special about him. I f I had 3 words or less to describe him it would be, 'well-rounded'. “Hey Mason” I said walking towards him. He turned facing me and said, “Oh, hey Toby. So you doing your photography homework tonight too? I've seen about half the class out here tonight.” “Well he weather is really nice tonight and it's supposed to rain the rest of break.” I responded. “Thanks Mr. Weatherman.” he said impersonating a news anchor. I couldn't help but laugh, and after a minute he started laughing too. Then we walked around taking a picture now and then. After talking for a few minutes he turned towards me. “Oh yeah who's that girl who was at your house earlier, it didn't sound like Jade.” I was a little shocked by this question.“Did this guy stalk my house or something, the curtains were closed so he only could have heard her.” I thought to myself. I soon realized that maybe other people may have heard her too. “She's my cousin.” I answered quickly. “Oh good I thought you were cheating on Jade.” he said. I couldn't think of a way to answer so I let out a fake laugh. I took out my phone and pretended to look at the time. “Oh sorry dude but I gotta go.” I said walking away slowly. “Oh, ok,” he started, “See you later, Toby!” I watched him out of the corner of my eye. I waited till he was out of sight before I started running home. I wanted to take a quick shower before Cloud was home, because knowing her she'd want to watch how humans bathe. And I wasn't sure how much Cloud knew about humans, like basic knowledge. She didn't know how to use a bathroom other than a litter box a day ago, so I wasn't sure what she knew and what didn't. When I arrived home Athena and Cloud were sitting on the porch. Athena looked annoyed and Cloud was off in her own little world. “Athena can you watch her while I take a shower? Please?” “Can I come with you Toby?” Cloud asked. “Cloud you can't take a shower with him.” Athena said. “Why?” “Because we all need privacy.” “Huh? Give another reason that one wasn't good enough.” Athena sighed, “You just can't.” “But I don't know how, just let him show me!” You know what I'll show you.” Cloud pouted while Athena took her into the living room. “Don't take to long and leave hot water!” I nodded, “Wait, I don't have any girl shampoo.” “Check if Jade left some!” Athena yelled back. I searched the bathroom and luckily found a little of Jade's shampoo that she must have forgotten. “Found some!” I yelled. “Good,” Athena yelled back, “Now hurry up!” I took a fast shower and was out of the bathroom within 20 minutes. Cloud grabbed Athena's hand and ran for the bathroom. “Wait Athena, I have something to ask you!” I yelled. Athena came out of the bathroom. She gave me the 'what' look. “Please tell her about being a girl and such and give her some common knowledge and a little guy knowledge about what's appropriate to do. And and when 'that time' comes can you have her tell you to tell me so she can stay in cat form those days.” “Yes I can do that but, really just buy her what she needs.” “I can't Jack would know, Jade's not here every day. And when she's a cat she's spayed so nothing happens.” Athena sighed while walking towards the bathroom, “I suppose that is the best way, fine I'll tell her but do me a favor, this is already embarrassing for so please don't listen after all I'm helping you.” I promised I wouldn't eavesdrop and she closed the door. At first I didn't like Athena, but in reality she's a pretty good friend. Later Athena cam out looking exhausted, and Cloud looked scared. She looked at me funny before sitting down on the couch with her legs to her chest. I mouthed 'thanks' to Athena as she left. I then turned to Cloud and said goodnight.
When I woke up the next form Cloud wasn't home. I called Athena and she said she hadn't seen her. Worried I had lost Jack's shape shifting cat, I ran around campus yelling 'Cloud! Domino!'. I couldn't find her. I knew she was a stupid cat trapped in a college student body. I just hope she remembers where she lives. I sat down worried. I called Jack and asked when he would be back, he told me he didn't know, which wasn't very useful information at the moment. I then called Jade and asked her to come home and help me search, she told me that she was just about to call me telling me that she was leaving. I quickly called Athena back and told her I would tell her when to come back when Jade was home. Now all I could do was wait for Jade to get home and worry about Cloud. And before I knew it I was asleep. I woke up three hours later and Jade had called two times saying she was home. I quickly texted Jade, Athena, and Mason telling them to come over and help me look for Domino. I would have put Cloud but only Athena really knew. Within 15 minutes we were all in my living room dividing up campus. We were going with twos. Of course I was with Jade, and Mason and Athena were together. I quickly searched the house for two flashlights. Somehow I manged to find two very quickly and before I knew it I was out running around Campus with Jade yelling 'Domino' over and over. I knew she wasn't stupid enough to only remember 'Cloud' since one of the first things she told me was that her original name was 'Cloud'. I soon realized that Domino was much smarter when she first become Cloud, and that as time went on she got dumber. I knew she was a shape-shifter and I knew nothing about shape-shifters but it still didn't seem normal. After searching around for about an hour Jade finally told me she just too tired. Her tired eyes looked up at me. I pushed her hair back with my head and kissed her forehead and put my arm around her. Then we slowly walked towards the middle of campus, the set up area where we agreed to met at. Jade and I got there first. We sat down in the grass and waited for Mason and Athens. In time while we waited Jade told me about her trip home. About 20 minutes later the others showed up. We both had no luck Just when we all turned around we heard a female voice yell “Where are you going weren't you looking for me?” We all turned around slowly to Cloud and two other, a girl and boy both with white hair like Cloud's and both were about our age. They were dressed in fairly tight black jumpsuits, like Cloud also. “Now,” Cloud began, “That girl is a demon! She only pretends to love you Toby. I'm the one you love I'm the one who loves you, I'm the one you need!” I brought Jade in for a hug, I knew everything Cloud was saying was a lie. “You're lying!” Athena yelled. Mason and Jade both looked confused and frightened while Athena and I looked betrayed. “And how come you're suddenly smart now?” I asked her loudly. “You idiot, don't you know that shape-shifters are excellent actors. I can't believe you of all people wouldn't know that, after all, you're a shape-shifter too!” The words “ I can't believe you of all people wouldn't know that after all, you're a shape-shifter too!” hit me like a bullet. I was a normal human, I wasn't a shape-shifter. I couldn't change my form even if I wanted too. “I challenge you to a battle on Anderson Avenue. I will give you all one week to prepare . And when I win I will kill that demon, Jade and Toby will be my boyfriend!” Cloud bellowed, “You and your little allies against me and my storm fighters. Now say hello to Hail and Cirrus!” The girl and boy next to Cloud moved forward. They both had creepy smiles on their faces. The girl stepped forward and said, “Hi losers, I am the great Hail. And my specialty is pelting my opponents with hail until they are dead or conscience.” She smiled sweetly and fixed hair for second before going back to scowling at us. The boy next to her stepped forward. “Can you wait just one second?” he said in a somewhat high voice. He then turned his back to us while fixing his hair and pulling fuzz off his costume. Jade leaned over to me and said. “I think he's gay...” I nodded in agreement. He turned around and clapped his hands together. “Ok, now, my name's Cirrus. And I know what you're all thinking, 'What possible power could a gay guy with a cloud name have?' well you see, my power is foggy-ness” he said while doing a tiny set of jazz hands. “Now,” he continued, “ even though it doesn't sound threatening just wait until you're out there fighting with no visibility.” He then turned and walked back towards cloud smiling. “So, do you accept?” Cloud asked. “We accept.” I said. I turned towards everyone, they all nodded in agreement. “Now we gotta go practice.” I said. “See you on Anderson Avenue” Cloud said to us harshly. We then all ran back to my house.
When we got home we all had the same question, 'Where's Anderson Avenue?'. I went to my room and grabbed my laptop to Google it. Athena sat on the couch shocked, that Cloud had tricked her. Jade and Mason were confused so I told Athena to tell them. I brought up Google and typed in 'Anderson Avenue'. We all huddled around the laptop waiting for Google to bring up the results. After what seemed like for hours the results came up I studied the page carefully. I saw ads but no location. After scrolling down quiet a bit, I found a location. “Look I found it!” I said excitedly pointing to the screen. “But that's near Cleveland Ohio, how are we gonna get there, we're in Massachusetts.” Mason started. “Yeah,” Athena interrupted, “it's like a 8 hour drive.” “Well I'm a shape-shifter, I'll just turn into a plane or something.” I said. “Who will fly it?” Jade asked. “I”ll fly myself.” I said. “Are you sure you can even do that?” “No...” “Well let's just train until we have to leave. We'll catch a train or something. Toby get us four tickets for Friday, and email Jack that you might not be home.” Athena ordered. “Can do, but...” I said turning around in my spinny chair. “But what?” “Jack thinks Domino is still Domino and that she's a cat doing cat things here at home with just me here.” “Oh boy that is a problem.” Mason added. “Just tell him we'll be back.” Jade said on the verge of tears, “I don't know what I'm gonna do! If Cloud captures me she'll kill me, I'll be killed because some crazy shape-shifter thinks I'm a demon.” Jade snapped and started crying. I walked over to her and hugged her. I let her cry into my shoulder while I talked with the others about our training. “I'll go with sword fighting, sounds pretty easy. After all Athena was the goddess of war.” Athena said a overly confident tone. “Hand-to-hand combat seems easy enough.” Mason said deciding quickly. “I'll practice my shape-shift and Jade will just stay hidden and maybe do a little spying.” I added. “May the goddess of war Athena, help us win our battle on Anderson Avenue!” Athena said happily. “Now I'm going to find a sword, and a teacher.” She said hurrying off. “Better go find a teacher myself. Good-bye Jade and Toby.” Mason said while walking out the door. I comforted Jade for another 10 minutes or so before making her practice hiding and making her tell me things to shape-shift to. “Very good for one night.” I told her as I put my arm around her before kissing her head. “Same to you.” She said looking up at me. After our minute of cuddling she gently pushed me away and walked over to the computer. Jade sat down and typed in 'Demon'. After reading a few paragraphs she sat back, her expression was puzzled. “I don't know if this is kinda a compliment or not, but Cloud thinks I'm a demon, right?” She started, “Well here it says, 'You can easily tell if someone is a demon because they are unusually good-looking. They're good looks are to attract people of the opposite gender so they can later eat the person once gaining their trust.'” “I guess that's a compliment.” I said sitting down next to her. “Sorry to change the topic but can you help me practice some more.” I continued. She nodded and shouted out random commands.
After practicing for about two hours and got a call from Athena saying she was making good progress and that she was gonna call it a night. About ten minutes later Mason called saying basically the same thing. “You probably want me to go home now don't you?” Jade said quietly. “No, do you wanna stay the night? And you'll need to practice stay hidden for long periods of time because that's what you'll be doing while Mason, Athena, and I are fighting.” I told her. “If you put it that way then I'll stay.” she replied. “Ok now pretend I'm Cloud, what are you gonna do.” I said trying to look a little Cloud-ish. “Hide and be silent.” She said. “And what else?” “And don't come out unless you, Athena, or Mason comes and finds me. And if Cirrus, Hail, or Cloud finds me I am to scream, kick them, and run.” “Very good I've taught well. Now I'm gonna come try to find you and only when you see me you can hide. This will help you think better on short notice.” “Ok” Then I turned and walked to other side of the house. “Starting now!” I yelled to her across the house. I slowly started walking towards the living room in a dramatic way, searching behind everything that a teenage girl could fit behind or in. I finally reached the living, Jade must have seen me earlier because she was already hidden. I pretended to spot something and walked in the direction that I looked towards. After I brought my attention back to searching, I figured it would feel more authentic if I did a little shape-shifting. This provided a more authentic feel and gave me some practice. After looking for five minutes or so I found her. I must admit she was pretty hard to find and she was just hiding in just a tiny living room, imagine how hard she find in a large area around Anderson Avenue. When I found her she fake kicked, screamed, and ran. Just like I told her too. “Good job!” I praised. “Thanks!” She started, “Oh and Toby, when's dinner, I'm hungry?” “Oh my god, sorry, I usually only make food when I'm hungry. I don't have many people over and when I do, they usually bring food.” I said quickly and embarrassed. She laughed, “It's ok, just order a pizza or something.” “It's not too late, Let's go out for pizza and ice cream, my treat.” I replied. “Are you gonna invite the others?” Jade asked. To be blunt, I just wanted to go with my girlfriend, for some alone time, just is case things didn't go our way during the battle. “You see I kinda uh, how do I put this?” I started saying. Fortunately for me she caught on and agreed on just the two of us, but only if we all had dinner together before the battle. I grabbed my coat, car keys, and wallet while Jade grabbed what she needed. “Ready Toby?” Jade asked turning around. I nodded and took her hand while we walked to the car. I opened the car door for her before walking over to the driver's side. We then set off for maybe our last alone meal together.
We returned about an hour later just as the sun was going down. “Wanna go for a sunset walk?” I asked her. She nodded and grabbed my hand. “Let's go this way.” I said pointing towards a trail that went into a small forest near my house. As we walked we talk about everything, since it might be our last walk together. We tired to laugh at a funny memory or something similar but the laugh's were too forced and sounded unnatural. “So what was your childhood like Toby? You rarely talk about.” Jade said. I had a reason for not talking about my childhood, it was very painful and personal. “Just tell her, it might be the last time you can. And if she doesn't...die then you and Jade will be closer. Just do it Toby!” I thought to myself. “Toby? Something wrong?” Jade asked. “No I'm fine. I guess I'' just tell you about my childhood now. But first let's sit under that oak tree over there. ” I replied. I gestured to the tall oak tree near a small pond. We sat down and got comfy. “Ok,” I started while taking in a deep breath, “well, let's just say I had long and hard childhood. It was pretty nice until I got to junior high. After fifth grade my parents wanted me to act like an adult be treated like a child. They expected too much of me. I lived in the shadow of my older siblings, they had all done well in their schooling, I was just average, but that wasn't good enough for them. All they did was yell at me. All the yelling and constant supervision made my grades drop. I tried to tell them that when they watched over me I couldn't concentrate well, and they were very noisy while I tried to work. Most of what I remember from those years was just them calling me names like, 'stupid' and 'idiot'. As you can imagine that didn't help me. It brought my already low self confidence down. I hated going to school and I hated coming home. I felt like I didn't belong anywhere. I didn't feel loved at home, and at school I couldn't understand what was being taught because I felt like I didn't have enough confidence to think that I could learn what was being taught. High school wasn't as bad though.” I said holding back tears, “My parents still looked at me as the 'family failure' and I still didn't have much confidence. But I met you and felt loved for the first time in many years. You Jade, have been the one to keep me going. I love and I want to protect. I can't let Cloud capture and kill. I'm risking my life for you Jade. I'm doing this all for you.” I was crying now, thinking about my childhood and losing Jade was too much. Out of the corner f my eye I saw Jade, she looked touched. She threw her arms around me and hugged me, she was crying too now. “Toby I never knew you felt that way. I love you too, Toby!” Jade said between tears. She let go and looked at me. I knew we were both thinking that this may be one of last moments. I leaned in and kissed her, hoping it wouldn't be our last.
I opened my eyes to see sunlight coming through my blinds. I sat up and took a deep breath in, it had been 3 nights ago that I came out and told Jade everything. Athena, Mason, Jade, and I were taking a train to Cleveland Ohio later today to face Cloud and her storm fighters on Anderson Avenue tomorrow. I got up and walked over to my closet where my suitcase was mostly packed. But I still had to pack some things, y'know like I'm still using like toothpaste and such. After making breakfast I checked my email. Jack emailed me saying that his aunt was barely alive and he couldn't just leave. I replied telling him to back when he felt ready. Inside I was thinking just how perfect this was, but it would sound kinda uncaring if I put something like that. It was about 11 am when Athena called. “Toby! So glad I could reach this is really urgent!” Athena started. “What do you need?” I asked while pacing back and forth. “How long will we be in Ohio? And what's the weather like there?” “We should only we there three days at most and Cleveland's south of here so a little warmer and Lake Eerie produces lake effect storms so wait, why am I telling you this you can check the weather yourself.” I said with a bit of frustration in my voice. “Fine,” she said, “but thanks for the little information you told me.” Then she hung up. I texted Jade and Mason to ask how there preparations were coming along. Jade responded quickly saying she was hesitant to go to Cleveland. I could understand I mean I would hesitant too knowing it might be my last days in a strange city. Mason hadn't responded yet so I waited patiently, or at least tried to. In the end I ended up calling him, only to find out that his phone had died. For the next hour or so I practiced my shape-shifting. After practicing I felt lonely so I texted everyone to come over and practice for the last time. Within 20 minutes everyone had arrived, all looking nervous. “Athena, show us what you learned.” I said seriously. She looked at me and nodded then proceeded to the middle of the living room. She was waring a slim pack on her back. Athena carefully took the pack and opened it. Inside was a sword she then unsheathed the sword and examined it closely before taking a sturdy stance. She then swung the sword in different ways that looked painful if you were hit. Athena then practiced moving around with sword in hand swinging it back and forth in graceful but painful looking motions. When she finished she put the sword back in it's protective casing and walked over to the couch and sat down before placing the sword at her face. I saw Jade's face light up after she saw how skilled Athena was. She knew we might have a chance at winning now. I looked at Mason and gestured for him to show us what he had learned. He got and explained that he had worked with an actual person and dummies so added that it would look weird without an actual but person. Mason punched and kicked the air while dodging fake punches and kicks. “Just in case I have a dagger with me.” He said to us while taking the dagger out of his small travel bag.. “Why do you need a dagger?” Athena asked. “Just in case, you can never be too helpful.” “Mason, where did you get a dagger?” I asked. “I found it.” he replied. “Where?” “Y'know, just around...” I had a feeling he wasn't gonna tell me some I just left the topic alone. But your average person just doesn't have a dagger just lying around. We were all silent after that. Mason should in the center of the room with nothing to say. For about a minute there was just an awkward pause. Mason finally went back to his spot on the couch next to Athena. “I guess I'll go now.” I said walking to the center of the room. Well all I'm gonna do is just shape-shift. I then turned into a wolf, then a bear, and lastly a small tree. I returned to my original form before saying, “Jade will just hide a good distance away from the battle zone. Now, let's head for the train station.”. We picked up our things and headed for the door. I turned off all the lights before setting the alarm and locking the door. And before I knew it we were all packed in my small SUV headed for the station. We arrived at the station about 10 minutes before our train left, in that time we got out all are luggage and started walking towards the waiting area. After five minutes of waiting we boarded the train. I sat next to Jade. Athena and Mason sat across from us. Our luggage was above our heads in the luggage storage area. At exactly four o'clock our train left the station for Cleveland Ohio.
We arrived in Cleveland at four in morning. Everyone had fallen asleep except me, I mean someone had to wake everyone up when we arrived. When we got out of the train station we rented a car and drove to our hotel. I rented us two rooms, one for Mason and me, and one for Athena and Jade. I would have preferred to have only rented one room but Athena refused to share a bed with Mason. Which was understandable. And I wasn't so big on the idea of me and Mason sharing a bed, so I figured renting two would be the best way. When we got to the hotel we each got our room keys and headed for our rooms. “I'll text you guys about breakfast and tomorrow's game plan tomorrow.” I said sleepily. When I opened the door I dropped my luggage down a gravitated towards the closest bed. I watched Mason half asleep put his own luggage down and fall on the bed closest to the window and within minutes we were both asleep. I woke up shocked a few hours later, I checked the time 7:57 a.m. I sat up and saw Mason asleep. I tried to think what had forced me awake a few moments ago. It came to me, I was back in the forest, running from an unknown creature. I shuttered, having a such a horrible flashback early in the morning was kinda creepy. I walked over to my suitcase and got out my toothbrush, my clothes, and some other things I would need to get ready for breakfast. Half asleep, I walked into the bathroom with clothes, toothbrush, and a few other things in hand. I locked the door and turned to put my clothes on the vanity. When I looked up I saw Cloud in the mirror, she was standing behind me. I jumped a screamed quietly knowing I couldn't be loud for two reasons, one it was eight in the morning and two I was in a hotel. “Did you figure out who was chasing you that one night?” she asked. “Uh, no. And why are you asking me this? Were you in my mind? Did you know I just had a flashback?” I questioned her. Cloud walked over to the vanity, jumped up, sat on it, and crossed her legs. “I wasn't in you mind or anything I didn't know you had a flashback your expression just looked like you did. It looked horrified just like it did that night.” She said. “How would you know what my face looked like that night? Wait you weren't that thing chasing me were you?” “Congrats you figured it out. Yes Toby, I shape-shifted into a mysterious creature and chased you.” “Why would do something like that?” I demanded. “Simply, I was bored. I saw you walking along, and I thought you were cute so I chased you. Where I grew up if a shape-shifter chased you it meant they had a crush on you.” “Um, thank you I guess.” I said scratching the back of my head, “By the way where did you grow up?” “Oh you'll find out when you lose later today, because after the battle I'm taking you home to daddy so he can approve you.” “What if he doesn't approve me?” I asked nervously. “You'll be killed along with Jade.” “You can't kill me or Jade if I beat you today!” “Well, we'll see how turns out victorious later on Anderson Avenue. Sayonara.” She said while shape-shifting into a bird and flying out the opened small window in the bathroom. As soon as Cloud left Mason knocked on the door. “Who you talkin' to?” he asked. “Cloud,” I responded, “She was here.” “And Toby can you hurry up? Athena just texted me saying she and Jade would be a breakfast in 10 minutes.” I nodded and hurried doing my morning routine. After six minutes Mason and I were all ready for breakfast. We walked to the elevator slowly hoping to met them on the way there. We didn't see them so we continued our way down to the lobby for breakfast. Mason walked into the elevator quickly, he was probably hungrier than I was. After seeing Cloud again and remembering just how close the battle was, I lost my appetite. After a short two minute ride down we were arrived in the lobby. I turned to the left to see where breakfast was being served. I searched the group of people until I saw Jade and Athens, they were waving at us. “Tell them I'm getting food first!” Mason told me before speed-walking towards the waffle maker and toaster. “Good morning.” Athena said. “Mason's getting food.” I told them, they already had food on their plates. “Aren't you getting something, you need it the most.” Jade said concerned. “I don't need it the most, you need to eat well so your stomach won't growl while your hiding.” She nodded and the point I had just made. “But, you're the one fighting Cloud. Toby, we won't have a chance of winning if you don't eat! Don't go anorexic on us today. If you want do that another day. Y'know what just don't go anorexic at all.” Jade said leaning back her chair crossing her arms. “I'm not going anorexic,” I started, “I'm just nervous.” “We all are.” Athena added. “What I'd miss?” Mason said putting his food down next to me before sitting down. “Nothing.” I started saying, “Now what's our plan?” Everyone shrugged. “You go get some food, 'cuz until then we're not discussing anything until then!” Jade said loudly. “Fine...” I mumbled as I got up to go get some breakfast. After waiting in line for the waffle maker and toaster, I returned to the table. I sighed, “Happy now?” I asked a little annoyed. Jade nodded. “Well I have an idea?” Mason said. “I was thinking that Jade could hide back here at the hotel,” “I'm gonna help defeat Cloud.” Jade interrupted, “I'm not staying! I'm helping you guys win!” she disagreed loudly. Mason's expression was annoyed, he then sighed and looked down at his plate. “Well I could fight Hail. Mason could fight Cirrus. Toby's obviously fighting Cloud. And Jade can come out of her hiding spot when either Cirrus or Hail is down to hide them behind a bush or something similar, and if they wake up for whatever reason she can stab them with Mason's daggar. And Jade has to hide close enough to us so if we need her she'll be there soon.” Athena said. “It's not mad.” I said munching on my toast. “Why does she get my daggar? What if I need it?” Mason asked. “You know hand-to-hand combat she doesn't. And you most likely won't need it.” Athena answered. “We'll meet in the park in 20 minutes. We should practice one more time. Then we can go find Anderson Avenue and get familiar with it's geography. And we should bring our weapons just in case Cloud's there thinking we were ready for battle.” I told everyone. They nodded before heading their way back to their rooms. I finished my breakfast than ran back to the room so I would have at least a little relaxation time before the battle. I opened the door to see Mason playing one of the video games you could rent. He looked up at me, “I know, I know. I'll pay. I couldn't pass up this game, it just came out a week ago!” I shook my head lightly before plopping down on my bed. And for the next 10 or so minutes I watched Mason play videos. Most unexciting to watch ever.
Two hours later after a short survey of the area, we found Anderson Avenue. It was a quiet little side street with a few little houses. Jade told us she saw many hiding opportunity spots. We left the area satisfied with the geography of Anderson Avenue. Mason and I were back in our room, Mason was playing video games and I was watching. The clock said 2 pm. “I'm going to the vending machine near the elevator.” I said taking my room key and walking towards the door. “Uh-huh, sure.” Mason said keeping his full attention on the game. I opened the door and walked out into the hallway. As I walked to the vending machine I heard footsteps behind me. I quickly turned around and saw Cloud. “Aloha.” She said with a creepy smile. “What are you doing here?” I asked surprised. “So you saw Anderson Avenue? Did you like it? Oh yeah battle's at 7, don't be late or you'll be sorry.” She then turned and ran towards the end of the hall. Halfway down the hallway she jump and shape-shifted into a bird. Cloud then flew the rest of the way down the hall and out the open window at the end. A little confused I turned around and starting walking towards the vending machine again. I got myself some chips and ate them quickly. I quickly looked around in the hall to see if anyone was around. I didn't see anyone so I shape-shifted into bird like Cloud and practiced flying. I wish I would have thought of practicing flying, because at the moment, I suck. I then took the same way out Cloud did through the window. Now I had open space to fly around in. And for the next 45 minutes or so I practiced my flying. After I returned to the room, knowing how to fly. “Hi buddy.” I said when I walked in. “Hey...” Mason responded without looking at me. I was actually really surprised he hadn't questioned where I was and why I was there so long. “Battles in three hours so we should practice and then rest a little more.” I added. “Yep.” “Are you even listening? That didn't make anything sense.” “Yep.” “Hello, Mason? Y'know I think those games are stupid. So stop wasting time on them!” “Yep, wait what?” He said turning to me after pressing the pause button. “The battle's in three hours so come practice with me.” “Oh yeah, sure.” “Let's stop by Athena and Jade's room on the way they could use some practice too.” I said opening the door. We walked past a few other hotel rooms before reaching Jade and Athena's room. Mason knocked while I stood behind him waiting for the door to open. Jade opened the door looking scared. “Cloud....she was here...she threatened me.” She said before lunging at me. The force of her made me stumble back a little. Once I regained my balance I wrapped my arms around her and patted her back now and then. Athena walked towards the door, she glanced at Jade before looking at me and Mason. “I tried to fight her but when I went to get my sword she had shape-shifted into mouse and ran into a small hole in the wall.” Athena whispered. “When was this? Toby's been visited by Cloud quiet a few times today. We came to ask you guys to come practice with us. Cloud said to meet her at Anderson Avenue at seven o'clock sharp.” Athena nodded and went to get Jade's stuff a long with hers. And within minutes we were back in the park, we chose a less populated area to practice. I quietly shape-shifted into different things behind a large bush. Athena practiced swinging her sword, but she had to use a stick about the same length so no one would freak out. Mason practiced punching the air, and Jade sat on bench observing us. We must have been quiet the group to see with Mason punching the air and Athena swinging a stick. I hadn't realized how much had pasted until Jade yelled out, “It's 5:30 everyone can we go back to the hotel and rest a while? Maybe get some dinner?” Athena, Mason and I nodded in agreement. I mean it wasn't a bad idea, after all it might be our last meal together. But now of us wanted to think about that. After a short 15 minute walk we were in the hotel restaurant ordering some dinner. I heard my phone make a sound. I reached in my pocket. Jack had emailed me it read, “i was wondering where u were? Is domino ok? I cant find her? but anyway I got ur letter just thought id let u know I coming to cleveland to ill be there around 10pm by the way thx for leaving the hotel im staying there 2 ready for dis short fun vacation with u guys! c u guys soon -Jack” My jaw dropped, Jack couldn't come at a worse time. The battle was tonight and we had no idea how long it would last and Jack thinks we're staying here longer than we really were. “What is it, Toby?” Athena asked. “Toby? What's the matter?” Jade asked sweetly. “Show us.” Mason said. I showed them the email. “Crap...” Athena said. “Now we really can't lose.” Mason added. “We'll help pay for the extra nights we're here.” Jade said. Athena and Mason nodded. I looked at them, they could understand my dilemma. I looked at my friends at the table while they smiled back at me and each other. I had the best friends ever and I didn't want to lose them. “Now,” I started, “We have to eat fast so we can get this battle over with and welcome Jack.” Everyone looked nervous, but they were willing to go with the plan. We talked about our battle strategy quietly until our food arrived. The food was gone within 15 minutes, we split the bill then hurried to our rooms to change and get grab our battle gear.
“How do I look? Am I covered enough? Are you protected enough? Are you ready do you thing Athena and Jade are ready? What if they skip out on last minute? We can't win without Athena Mason? We just can't!” I said nervously. “Calm down, and you look well protected as do I. And I know Athena's not one to chicken out, I haven't know Jade as long so I can't say the same.” Mason said sneaking his daggar in his belt. It was hard to look casual wearing thin sheets of metal we had 'borrowed' from the kitchen. I grabbed a large coat to cover my armor, and handed Mason my other large overcoat. I sighed nervously before forcing myself to open the door to go get Athena and Jade. When we arrived Athena opened the door looking confident. But for all I know the confident expression could just be an act. Jade followed behind her looking very on edge. If you went up behind her and said 'boo' you'd be elbowed in the stomach or something similar. We walked to the elevator quickly and got inside. “It's 6:57. We better hurry.” Jade said quietly. Athena nodded and patted her sword case which she was hold. When we got to the lobby we had three minutes to run to the park. The doors opened and ran out like serial killer was after us. I didn't care how suspicious we looked running out of an elevator with heavy coats on, I just didn't want to keep Cloud waiting. “Two minutes! Run faster!” Jade said between heavy breathes. “We're halfway there. Jade go hide, we'll take care of this.” Athena shouted speeding ahead. When we arrived it was very foggy thanks to Cirrus. Fortunately Jade had hidden back a while so I didn't have to worry about her here, but of course I did. I dashed into the fog after shape-shifting into a elephant. Athena and Mason followed me, Mason had his hands ready and Athena was holding her sword. As silent as I could I blew away the fog. I spotted Cloud, she was standing near Hail. I glanced up and saw Cirrus trying to create more fog. Athena dashed ahead of me waving her sword, she jumped and swung her weapon. Mason somehow got Cirrus down from his floating state and was now fighting one-on-one with him. I looked back at were Cloud should be, but she wasn't there. “Where'd she go? I...ouch! Crap! Where did that come from? Ouch!” I was now holding in groans of pain. Something was stinging me over and over. I concentrated and shape-shifted into poisonous frog. I hopped around to see Cloud as a some sort of stinging insect. I couldn't recognize it which told me it was rare and not from around here. I flung my tongue at it wondering what would happen if I ate her. I tried over and over again trying to get my tongue on her, but Cloud was fast. She moved swiftly, and whenever I lost sight of her I shortly felt a sting somewhere on my body. After many fails I finally got her with my tongue. When my frog tongue touched a living creature it shot a little poison to paralyze the creature, so I could either eat them or kill them with more poison. She fought against the poison and won, she broke free. Once free she fled a few feet away. I didn't know where she was going, I glanced over to see that Athena had already Hail down and now she was helping Mason against Cirrus, who was almost defeated. “Um, Cloud a little help here? I'm kinda losing here.” He said trying to kick Athena and Mason while trying to produce at least a little fog. “Go finish her, we'll be there in a minute.” Athena yelled to me. Mason threw his daggar and it nailed Cirrus in the back. “Why must everyone pick on me. Cloud, help me, help me...” Cirrus choked out while falling to the ground. I heard him hit the ground, when Cirrus landed he started gasping for air. I will never forget that sound, I hated battle but I had to finish this for Jade. I pushed myself onward to look for Cloud so Athena, Mason, and I could finish her and go home. “I saw Cloud limp that way. What'd you do to her, it looks effective.” Mason asked wiping the blood off the daggar with shirt. “Poison from tongue when I was frog.” I responded. “Crap, Toby look.” Athena said pointing to my left. I glanced over and saw Jack. He looked at me and waved before noticing what Mason, Athena, and I were wearing. He ran over. “Mason explain to him as best as you can. C'mon Athena, we can't let Cloud get away when we're this close.” I said starting to run in the way Mason said he saw her limping off. I looked back to see Athena nodding and following me. Athena ran past me with her bloody sword in front her. I stopped and quickly shape-shifted in a wolf before running after her to find Cloud. I ran sniffed all the bushes and finally found her, and unfortunately she was with Jade. “Athena here!” I shouted. Within seconds Athena was by my side, her sword pointed in Cloud's face. She was weak but determined to hurt Jade. “Do it, do it now. Kill her before she hurts my Jade.” I ordered. Athena slowly lifted the sword above her head. I heard foot steps behind. I turned around to see Jack running towards me, Mason chasing him. Jack looked at Cloud. “Don't kill her! You can't kill Domino!” Jack reached in front of me and put his arms around Cloud. “Jack...” Cloud muttered. Cloud then shape-shifted back into Domino. Jack picked her up and ran. “How much did you tell him?” Athena said with her hand ready to slap Mason. “I could have killed her and saved Jade. If Jack takes her to a animal hospital and Cloud recovers this could happen all over again! But next time she'll get stronger allies, because she knows how strong we are!” “Toby told me to tell him. I assumed that by the time I was done that the deed would have been done! It's not my fault you guys take so long!” He shot back. “You know what...” Athena started. “Stop you two! All that matters now is that Jade is safe.” I said hugging her. “Now if we don't want this to happen again I say we all move here, Anderson Avenue. Far away from Massachusetts where Jack will take Cloud back when she's recovered. “Ok.” Mason and Athena said in unison. Jade hugged me tightly before kissing me. “Jade can move in with me that way she'll always have protection.” “Let's all be neighbors and attend a local college.” Athena said excited. “The idea doesn't sound that bad.” Mason added. “Um, you guys look you guys just had a battle.” Jade started. “Yeah, we just kinda did and we won.” Mason interrupted. “I know I know, but you can't go to the hotel like that. Give me your hotel key and I'll go get a spare change of clothes for everyone.” “Good idea.” I said handing her the key. “You don't mind do you Mason?” He shook his head. “Great be back in a few minutes!” Jade said running off.
I woke up feeling very refreshed. I glanced over and saw Mason sprawled out on the bed, looking as comfy as ever. I reached down to grab my phone off the floor. I had a new message from Jack, it read: “Can't believe u almost killed Domino. And im so glad shes a shape shifter cuz now I have a girlfriend whos also my cat. By the way I applied for a new room mate cuz no room mate of mine is gonna try to kill my cat. Bye toby I hope I never see you again. -Jack <3s Cloud” I laughed at least Jack was happy in the end. “Well I might as well respond saying that I was gonna move here and that all I have to do is just find a place, get my stuff and leave.” I muttered to myself. I wrote a quick email, “Hey Jack I was just about to email you. Glad we agree on not being room mates and be careful around Cloud shape-shifters are good actors. I'll be living with you until I have new place then I'll leave and never see you again. -Toby” I pressed send a sighed before falling back on my bed. I brought the blankets up to my chest. I sat back and realized that, Athena and Mason killed Hail and Cirrus. And I almost killed Cloud. Does that make us murders? I didn't kill anyone though, and Hail and Cirrus weren't even human. After debating with myself if we were murders or not I came to the conclusion that we weren't it was self-defense. “Toby? What time is it? Have we moved to Anderson Avenue yet? Were we caught?” Mason asked sleepily while sitting up slowly. “It's 10 no we weren't caught and no we haven't moved here yet.” “Oh, thanks buddy.” he said. “Wake me up for breakfast soon.” “Sure” I replied while grabbing new clothes and walking to the bathroom. I quickly got changed and did the rest of my morning stuff before making roll out of bed for breakfast. Soon after waking Mason up I called Jade and told her we'd be at breakfast soon. A half an hour later at breakfast we sat quietly. “Make your bags, we're going home tonight. We'll only be there a few days though, then we'll have rented or bought our own places and we'll be living here in Ohio.” I said. Athena nodded, “I saw an apartment complex somewhere around here. We can ask if they have any apartments left.” “It's worth a try. Is it on Anderson Avenue?” Jade said between bites. “Yes, I saw it too. It's down the rode from here.” Mason added. After breakfast we put or dirty plates away and then searched for the apartment complex. It was a short 10 minute walk. We were just in luck they had three apartments available. Athena and Mason would have their own, while Jade and I shared. And fortunately for us they were all on the same floor. We quickly examined the apartments before telling the owner that we would be renting them starting next week. “Now all I have to do is find a job and a college and I'll be perfect.” “Yeah I need to do that too...” Athena said in a slightly depressed tone. “Our train leaves in 40 minutes so we'd better hurry.” Mason said looking at his watch. “Crap...” I said before running full speed for the elevator. Once in the room I quickly scattered the room for my things. After five minutes of frantic I had everything packed and ready to go. Mason took twice as all as me, but in reality it wasn't a bad time. We walked down to the lobby with our luggage and checked out. A few minutes later Athena and Jade were checked out too. I then called a taxi and told them our destination, the train station. We'd be home around 9 am tomorrow. The taxi arrived 15 minutes later and we all piled in for our drive to the train station. I woke up and found myself in my own bed back in Massachusetts. Everything from yesterday was a blur. I do know that I didn't do much yesterday, but I was so tired that forgot. I had been home three days now and each day was filled with packing and then searching for a job and a college. I called my parents and they thankfully agreed to help me pay for my new college and now monthly rent. They weren't too happy about Jade living with me but I convinced them that she was there so she could save some money on rent and so could I. In two days I would living on Anderson Avenue in Ohio with all my friends and now troubles, except for finding a job and a new college. Earlier today I told my professors about me moving none of them seemed happy about it, but I went at the same time Athena, Mason, and Jade also went to tell the professors. Jack was at home too but he was usually locked up in his room with Cloud or never home. I knew he was avoiding me and I could see his reason, but he was going a little far with it. If I entered a room he left immediately and he refused to make eye contact with me but that doesn't really bother me. I heard a soft melody and realized someone was calling me, I walked over to my phone and answered, “Hello?” “Oh, hi Jade. Is everything of your's packed? Good see you tomorrow. Wait! Don't forget your train ticket. Love you, bye.” Life couldn't be better. I walked to the kitchen and ate a quick snack. Right as I finished chewing the doorbell rang. I ran to answer it. I opened the door and saw Jade. Jade put her arms around me. I hugged her back, remembering just how close I had come to losing her. “I love you.” She whispered. I brought her in closer to me, she smelled sweet as always. Her sweet green eyes looked up at me. “I'll never forget how close I came to losing you on the day of the battle on Anderson Avenue.” I started. “And ,I love you.” I whispered before kissing her. “I love you too.” she said hugging me back
“Toby! Toby!
