Dragon Prophecies: Isaac (not done or edited) 16318 words
Part 1
I walked out onto the small balcony attached to my dorm room, and took in a deep breath of the fresh spring air. My red hair and burgundy school gown blew in the gentle breeze. I looked around me and saw the beautiful landscape that was the land of Gir. In the distance I saw a graceful gray and green dragon fly by. The dragon reminded me of my dragon, Isaac. But Isaac was more of a friend to than a loyal pet. We had an unbreakable bond. "Reina Shay! Where have you been I've been looking everywhere for you!" a wise sounding voice said loudly. I turned to see Headmaster Fin. "One of your servants is here with an important message." I sighed. My parents were nobles, so therefore I was the daughter of nobles. That's why I was sent here, Royal Dragon Trainer Academy(RDTA). "Reina? Did you hear your Headmaster? One of your servants is here!" Headmaster Fin yelled at me. He caught me daydreaming once again. "Fine," I finally responded. My servant, Sebastian came into my room carrying a small letter. "You could have just mailed it Sebastian." I told him. "I was told that this was an important urgent message that needed to hand-delivered." He said handing me the letter. I opened it to see what this 'important letter' contained. I looked at the top of the letter, it said, 'A important letter from the Shay Family'. "Oh great..." I muttered to myself quietly. Letters from my parents were never good, especially hand-delivered ones. The letter read, 'Reina, I'm afraid your brothers, Axel and Alec, won't be home in time for the festival this year. Love, Mom and Dad'. I stared at the letter furious. I got a letter just saying Axel and Alec wouldn't be home in time for the festival. My older brothers was never home for the festival, they were always out doing missions with their dragons, Muddy and Charlie. Axel and Alec graduated Royal Dragon Trainer Academy five years ago. It was my last year here and this year I wound be sent away on a mission with Isaac. I had been attending RDTA since I was 10. That was the best year of my life, I met Isaac, I was living on my own here at the academy, with help and guidance of course. But finally after almost six years of schooling I was almost considered an adult. Graduation would be late April. I turned around ready to leap on my bed with excitement, but I realized that Sebastian and Headmaster Fin were still here. They were holding in laughter. Apparently I'm funny when I dream about going on missions with Isaac. Embarrassed I thanked Headmaster Fin and told Sebastian to return home. "Very well." Sebastian bowing his head before walking out the door following Headmaster Fin. When they closed the door I casually walked over to the book shelf and pulled on the farthest left book. The book shelf then slowly glided over the floor to the right revealing a hidden room. In the room was a large cage, Isaac sat in the center of the cage looking lonely. Only the sons and daughters of nobles had rooms with a secret room for their dragon behind a bookshelf. "Hi buddy!" I said walking towards the cage. Isaac got up slowly and walked towards me. Isaac was a purebred rin dragon. Rin dragons were known for their unique coloring, for their stamina, and their will. Rin dragons were about 15 feet tall and 20 feet long. Issac was a handsome navy blue and beige rin dragon. His golden eyes watched me intensly. I extended my my hand out into the cage. He walked towards my hand and sniffed it. He stared at it as if he were waiting for something. "Ok buddy here's treat. Today's treat is rapuffs." I said while dropping a few rapuffs on the bottle of his cage. Rapuffs were fluffy black bird like creatures, except they don't chirp. Rapuffs say 'fluzzle'. "Riding practice starts in 10 minutes, Isaac. Bet you wanna stretch your legs and wings before though right?" I said going over to get his saddle and harness. I grabbed them and headed for the cage. Once inside I quickly put on the saddle and harness. After he was ready I quickly changed into a pink polo shirt, a pair of tan riding pants, my special riding shoes, and tied my silky red hair back in a braid. Then I jumped on him turned in the direction the book shelf door. He somehow managed to go through without him or me getting hurt. I directed him to the large window in my ornate dorm room. I then signaled him to fly. Isaac leaped out of the room and spread his wings. We flew to the middle of campus where the class would be in five minutes. A few of my classmates were also there with their dragons, letting them stretch their wings. I hopped off Isaac and gestured him to follow me. I walked over to my friend, Zander Karls. His dragon Wink, stood next to him. Zander waved as I approached him.”So how's Isaac?”he asked. “He's a little tired at the moment. But I think he'll be ok by the time practice comes. So wanna go take a short ride to warm up Wink and Isaac's muscles?” I asked. Zander nodded and boarded Wink. Wink was Zander's older cousin's dragon. Wink had been passed down generations in Zander's family, his cousin was just last to have her. He was promised a new dragon when he graduated RDTA, which was in April. Zander mounted Wink while I mounted Isaac. Wink is an older len dragon. Len dragons were known for their stamina, camouflage coloring, and almost all len dragons were gray or a forest green. Wink was a light forest green dragon with a few white horns on her head, just like Isaac. Her personality was stubborn at times and strong willed. “Ready?” he asked fixing the reins. “Ready.” I confirmed looking at him. I flicked the reins and Isaac took a few steps before he gracefully leaped into the air and started flying. Every time I was with Isaac flying above the tree tops I couldn't help but smile and laugh a little. I looked to my left and saw Zander holding back laughter. I could tell he didn't want to be rude and laugh at me. “Watch this!” He said speeding up Wink. He tugged on the reins a certain way a Wink did a quick flip. I gasped surprised he didn't fall, it took a good dragon rider to not fall of his dragon during flips. When he returned to my side I clapped, “Wow! That was amazing!” “Thanks, I've been practicing.” Zander said returning Wink to a normal speed. After who knows how many minutes of goofing around up in the air we landed. When we landed I glanced around and saw that our teacher, Professor Lee was approaching. I then quickly lead Isaac over to our assigned spot. I breathed a sigh of relief we Professor Lee didn't mark Zander and I as late. “Now we will go over our drills. Everyone mount your dragons.” Professor Lee ordered. I mounted Isaac quickly and waited for the next instructions. “If you do not know how to do a flip on your dragon then your homework is to find someone that does so they can teach you. But right now we will start by doing a little dodging practice. To the dodging course!” she said starting to walk towards the dodging course. The class followed her all the way there. When we arrived the course was set up in an odd manner. I had never seen it that way before in all my years here at the academy. Catapults were lined up side-by-side along a narrow trail, big enough for one dragon and rider. Towards the middle of the course there was a low tunnel, and at the end there were small pools with I'm guessing dangerous fish. “Now be careful, you'll most likely face conditions at this at one time or another and it'll be your only way. If something does go wrong dragon nurses are standing by, but I believe all of you are strong enough to do this and that the nurses will not be needed. Now go make a line.” Professor Lee said pointing towards the course. I stared at the course partly terrified. “I'll help you learn to flip later.” Zander whispered to me. “That's not important at the moment. Can't you see how hard this course looks? I don't know if I'll make it!” I whispered back while leading Isaac towards the end of the line. “Yeah so? I'll teach you at lunch.” I glared at him for a moment before trying to think on how to conquer this course. After who knows how long of staring at the course I heard Professor Lee call my name. “Miss Shay, you're next get ready. Reina! Are you ready?” It took me a moment to respond before nodding my head. “Ready Isaac? I know we can do this.” I said quietly while patting Isaac's neck. I shifted the reins in my hands waiting for the 'go'. I heard a siren and kicked Isaac's side so he would know to start. He started running off towards the catapults. They were flinging flaming rocks “Faster Isaac, faster!” I yelled, “Fly boy!” I flicked the reins and within seconds we were off the ground and in the air dodging flaming rocks. I steered him carefully avoiding the rocks. Isaac then came down from flight and started running again when we were past the catapults. I patted his neck again and kicked him to go faster. “Lower your head and bring your wings in!” I instructed. Isaac immediately listened. As the tunnel approached he sped up. Isaac hated small spaces and knew the faster you went through them the shorter you were in them. When we came out the other end I heard my classmates clapping and cheering me on. Isaac's fellow dragons were cheering him on by roaring loudly. I hoped all the commotion wouldn't mess up are concentration. As we approached the fish infested ponds i felt my concentration and confidence slip away. I don't know how but Isaac knew that I was out of it. I could tell he fully in control, he knew what was going on more than me. He jumped and then glided into the air and slithered over the ponds. I finally snapped back into it when the fish starting jumping up and almost biting me. "Thanks buddy, you're the best." I said flicking the reins. Isaac starting flying towards the end of the course. The cheering got louder and I felt amazing. I was almost towards the end and nothing had gone wrong besides me losing concentration. Isaac lowered down from flight at the end of the course. I dismounted Isaac and was breathing heavily. While I waited for Professor Lee, I turned around and gave Isaac a big hug. He was breathing heavily too. He was a little dirty from the course. Professor Lee troted over looking excited and amazed. "Oh Reina, that was beautiful! There were no mistakes! You and Isaac are in perfect harmony. You're going to do great out there. You're a dragon training prodigy! Maybe even a prophet, the prophecy hasn't been fulfilled yet. Maybe you are the the prophet, they always start out as prodigys. What I'm trying to say is that you did a perfect run!" she hollered in happiness. "You're excused from the rest of your classes today! You earned it I have to go tell the other Professors. You watch the other students run the course." Professor Lee than ran off towards the great castle that was the academy. "Um, who's next?" I yelled towards my classmates. "Me and Wink!" I heard a voice yell. I knew is Zander because Zander owned the 'Wink' in my class. "Ready Zander?" I yelled. He nodded and gave me the thumbs up. "Go!" I shouted. He flicked the reins and they were off. Wink slithered through the course at a good pace for an older dragon. Zander looked frustrated, he flicked the reins. Wink sped up but not a lot. He finally finished the course. Zander dismounted Wink and tried to smile at me, but he couldn't hide his frustration. "Well, I'm going to put this old thing away." He tugged on Wink's reins and lead her towards his dorm. "Next..." I yelled. I turned to the nurses behind me. "Can you take over here? Somethings really bugging me." "Sure" The nurse on the far right said while stepping forward. "Thanks!" I said mounting Isaac. "Let's go Isaac." I said kicking his side.
I looked left and right for Zander. We went to his dorm room he wasn't there, but Wink was. "Isaac talk to her." I instructed. Isaac put his head near the fence of Wink's cage. After minutes of dragon communication sounds, Isaac turned to me and flicked his head. I hopped on and waited for him to take me to Zander. Isaac flew to lily pond in the middle of campus. As we got closer i saw a person sitting near the water. "Zander!" I called. He turned and waved to me. I landed Isaac and dismounted him. I ran towards Zander as he stood up. "Why'd you just leave? You and Wink were great out there. And why'd you put her away, you said you'd teach me to flip." "Oh yeah I'll teach you to flip on Isaac. And you know how old Wink is. She isn't exactly athletic anymore. Wink's a 400 year old dragon. She's been passed down through my family for generations. Wink's a great dragon but, I need a dragon that can keep up with me and what lies ahead. With her, I wouldn't last a day. I'm getting a new dragon when I graduate, and I kinda want her gone. I can't afford to pay two dragon rents. I don't come from a noble family like you Reina. You can afford to keep multiple dragons. And you're lucky to have Isaac, he's 150 years old." He said looking at the pond. Everything he said was true. Both of my brothers had young dragons too. "You'll just have to pass it down to someone else in your family." I said looking at him. "I don't have any younger cousins or siblings. Either I get married and have kids, I pay rent for her while I'm out doing quests, or I put her down." "Zander, you know Wink's too good to put down. I'll write a letter to my parents. They like you I'm sure they help, even if you're not the son of a noble." I said. I put my hands on his shoulder and turned him towards me. "Now," I started, "Reina, we're just friends." He interrupted me. "I was just asking for you to teach me how to do a flip." I said confused. "Oh, then lets go mount Isaac." He said pointing towards Isaac. I walked over to Isaac and mounted. I held out my hand. "Jump on the back." Zander nodded, grabbed my hand and got on. "Bring Isaac to a nice flying speed." He instructed. I flicked the reins and Isaac started soaring among the clouds. "Has Isaac had past owner?" "I'm not sure but he's 150 years old so I'm sure he's just a little rusty with this. Now, how do I move the reins?" "Flick, then move the reins up and down quickly." "Ok!" I said following the movements. As I repeated moving the reins and I said, "Flip Isaac, flip." I felt Isaac flying up and then tilt back. I threw my hands around his neck, squeezed my eyes shut and leaned forward. I was screaming as he flipped. When I opened my eyes Isaac was flying forward and I behind me Zander rubbed his head. "What'd I do wrong? Well, besides my little freakout." I asked watching the sky ahead. "Nothing. It's just don't scream the next time. After practicing a few times you should be fine." I moved the reins again and Isaac flipped again. I screeched a little but not as bad. After a few more times I could direct Isaac into a flip and hold on without screaming. I lowered Isaac to the ground and let Zander hop off. "Great job. See you in...Oh wait you were excused. Well, see you at dinner." "Yeah, great, bye." I said leading Isaac back to my dorm. It took 15 minutes to get to my room. I stopped outside below my window and mounted Isaac. He flew up and into the my room and i guided him into his cage behind the bookcase. Once Isaac was inside I took off his saddle and harness. "I'll give you your treat before bed. See you in a few hours, Isaac." I said closing the bookcase door. I sighed as I walked over to close my window. On my bed was my school dress. I then took off my riding clothes and changed into the burgundy school gown. I walked over to the mirror and took my hair out of a braid. I fluffed my red hair before laying down on my bed. I sprawled out on the bed overcome with sleepiness. I could hear Isaac moving around in his cage behind the book case. I then got under the covers and set clock to wake me up in three hours. My eyes grew heavy and I found it harder to keep them open. The more I tired to stay awake the harder it became. “My alarm is set, a little nap wouldn't hurt.” I told myself while fixing the blankets. I then let my sleepiness take me away.
I looked around me and saw a lush landscape with tiny waterfalls, beautiful colorful flowers, and vines hanging down everywhere. I sat up and saw seven dragons sitting in a semi-circle around me. Isaac was in the circle too. Each dragon had very a distinct look. The one closet to my right was a smaller green dragon, with large wings and many spikes. The one closet to my left was a long, nimble yellow dragon. He had two long brown horns on his head. His wings were lean and long. The dragon's head was decorated with black lines in fancy patterns, and on the side of his head were what look liked fins. Next to the green dragon there was magnificent purple dragon, with transparent wings that faded to turquoise. He had a beautiful long neck and long tail. The dragon had a few spikes coming down from his chin, like a beard. Across from him was a tall and powerful looking gray dragon with darker points. His horns were at least three feet long, and his wings and tail were very large. And to Isaac's right there was a long white dragon. The dragon had no wings and no spikes. I had never seen such a dragon before! It's dark black eyes seemed to stare into your soul. I turned away from the uncomfortable stare to see the last dragon on Isaac's left. His body was covered by black spikes sticking out like feathers on a bird. The dragon had glowing orange eyes and wings. All the dragons sat before me. Terrified, I turned and ran into the jungle landscape behind me. I ran until I was out of breath. I stopped and listened for foot steps, but heard nothing. I laid down on the ground and looked up at the clouds. I had just realized that I had gotten away rather fast. I looked down and saw that my burgundy school gown was gone and that I had on a short brown skirt, a short brown shirt, and a light blue shawl. “I don't know who dressed me, but they have horrible taste. And it's not lady-like to wear stuff like this. A daughter of a noble only wears gowns and dragon riding clothes nothing more nothing less.” I said to myself while crossing my arms. I walked around the covering my stomach with my arms. “Hello? Isaac?” I shouted hoping a another dragon wouldn't come along. I heard a rustle in the bushes and I immediately formed a fighting stance. “Reina? Is that you?” The bush said. Zander popped out of the bushes. “Oh there you. Did you fill the prophecy yet? How'd the meeting go?” “Zander! Where am I ?” I said somewhat revealed and embarrassed. He looked at me with his caring brown eyes. I blushed and covered my stomach. “Sorry you have to see me like this and what prophecy? And by meeting do you mean those dragons and Isaac?” “What do you mean by 'what prophecy'? And yeah the meeting what happened.” he finally replied. “I'm sorry but you're no help to me at the moment. Now good-bye, Zander.” I said pushing him out of the way. I kept walking through the jungle hoping to find some answers. I came to a clearing and saw Isaac, just Isaac. I ran to him and hugged him. “Reina,” Isaac started, “Fulfill the prophecy, train those seven dragons and become the dragon trainer the prophecies speak of. But first you must be bitten by all seven dragons, then once all the bites are received you, Reina will become the dragon trainer.” Isaac roared. “What? And don't people that get bitten by dragons turn into dragons?” I asked shocked and confused. “Yes, you will be a dragon trainer that is part dragon. Each dragon controls a different element, and when you are bitten part of that element will be put in you. And once you have received all seven site you will be the ultimate dragon and dragon trainer. You will conquer all difficulties in your path, and you will rise above everyone else.” “I think you have the wrong girl.” “Reina, now wake up to fulfill your destiny?” “Wake up?...” I questioned.
I woke up and my eyes were wide and the hairs on my arm stood up. I sat up and put my hand on my head. “Oh yeah, the letter about Wink.” I said remembering what I promised Zander. I slowly got up and walked to my desk. I then wrote a letter to my parents – 'Dear Mother and Father, As graduation approaches I have run into a problem. You both know Zander, a friend of mine who is not a noble. His parents promised him a new dragon as a graduation gift, but now his current will have no home. He does not own enough money to pay for her rent and he does not want her dead. Wink is older dragon who loved being with people. I know this is a large favor to ask but, I know we have the money to pay rent for this dragon. I know Zander would be grateful to not lose his first dragon. So please, can you consider paying rent for Wink. Thank you. Sincerely, Your Little Girl, Reina.' As the inked dried I got the envelope ready for mailing. After a minute the letter was ready to be mailed. I still had an hour before dinner and all my friends were at class. I couldn't help but think about unusual dream. What prophecy? And more importantly why would I be chosen? Also who were the six other dragons? And what elements were they. I'm guessing the gray one was metal, the white one air, the purple one storms, the yellow light, the green rock, the black one fire, and Isaac water. I stood up and smoothed out my school gown, it was very wrinkled from my nap. I was too lazy to change so I just brushed out as many little imperfections as possible. I started pacing in my room wondering if my dream was a peek into my future. Was it just a dream? Frustrated I tugged on red hair. “Ugh! What does it mean?” I yelled. I then realized that I was in school, but fortunately everyone was in class and no one should have heard me. “I just need some fresh air.” I said grabbing the letter and running to my chamber door. Once outside of the building I picked up my skirt and ran to the main building of the school. When I got close to the main building, I stopped running and fixed my hair and dress. The students were expected to always look nice and presentable. I stepped inside the building and quickly walked to the office. “Hello.” I said walking in. “I need my butler to come take an urgent letter to my parents. By any chance is he still here?” “Name?” the office lady asked. “Reina Shay. My butler, Sebastian was hear this morning,” I answered. “One moment please. You can have a seat over there.” The lady said getting up, she then pointed to a row of chairs towards the back of the ornate office. I took a seat a crossed my ankles. As I waited I saw Headmaster Fin enter the room. “Reina, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in class?” he asked. “Yes but I was excused by Professor Lee because I did a great job. I came to see if my butler Sebastian was still here to deliver a letter for me.” I responded politely. “Oh very well, carry one then. And have a good rest of the day Miss Shay.” He said walking off towards his office. I then proceeded to wait for what seemed like forever. “He's here. Now follow me so you can give him the orders.” The office lady said peering around the corner. I happily got up and followed her. I saw Sebastian standing at the end of the hall. “I'm glad I didn't miss you Sebastian. Now, take this to Mother and Father quickly.” Sebastian nodded and took the letter, “Is that all?” He asked. “Yes.” “Then I shall be on my way.” Sebastian then turned to the door to his right and left. “Ok the letter's being delivered, Isaac behind the bookcase, dinner's in two hours, all the homework I was assigned for the day is done. What now?” I muttered to myself walking out of the building. “I know what to do now.” I said remembering my weird dream. When I saw no teachers or students around, I picked up my skirt and ran at full speed back to my dorm. “Of course! The Book will have the answers I seek!” I said running into the my dorm building. I quickly walked through the ancient hallways to my room. I burst open the door and scurried to my bookcase. I searched high and low for the book. “Hello Miss Shay.” I heard a mousy voice say. I jumped and turned around. My maid, Nellie was making in the process of making my bed when I scurried in. Nellie lived at the academy with me. Sebastian only came when delivering letters. “May I?” she said pointing towards the bottom of my school gown and my hair. “Yeah sure.” She nodded and walked over a fixed my ruffled skirt. She then fixed my hair a little. “The daughter of nobles should always look beautiful.” She said while turning back towards my bed. “Thank you, Nellie. Your help is much appreciated.” I said slowly turning towards the bookcase. “Yes!” I mumbled while reaching for a book towards the top of my bookcase. I grabbed the ancient book and pulled the book to open Isaac's 'hide-out'. I rushed inside and made a bee-line to the chair I had in the back of the room. I sat down and opened the book to the table of contents. “Mysterious Dreams About Dragons? What a perfect chapter for my situation! Thank you Book!” I said flipping to the correct page. “Can you read to me?” I said. “Yes. It would be my pleasure! I do love reading!” The book said. “Miss Shay? I hate being nosy, but who are you talking to? They talked back so I know it wasn't Isaac or yourself. You know you father wouldn't approve of you keeping boys in your dorm room.” Nellie yelled from the main part of the chamber. “It's no one! Nellie, you're excused of your services today!” I yelled back. “Why thank you! But if you need anything, you know what to do!” I heard Nellie drop what she was doing, and I mean dropped, I heard something hit the floor. The next thing I heard was the door closed. I glanced down at the book. “Sorry, but please continue.” I told it quietly. “All dreams with dragons are peeks into the future. If you have one of these rare dreams then brace for what you saw! Because probably what you saw wasn't exactly pleasant.” “Thank you Book.” I said shocked. I slowly stood up and walked towards Isaac's cage. “I wish you could talk and tell me what's going on. Or rather what's gonna happen. Dragons can see the future, you probably sent that as warning to me. Thanks buddy.” Isaac put his head to me as close as he could. I pet his head and looked back at the Book. “I sure hope you're wrong for once Book. Just this once. I can't train seven dragons it's take life times and I'm not skilled enough.” I muttered while walking towards the bookcase door. Once out I pushed the book back in place and watched Isaac disappear behind it. Once out I gazed out my window to see the sun starting to slowly move down in the sky. I walked foreword and heard a 'crunch!'. I lifted my foot up and looked down to see broken vase. The vase was clear and filled with water, but I didn't keep flowers there. I had tiny decorative stones at them bottom, and now the puny stones were scattered on there floor. Fortunately I was wearing shoes and I didn't get hurt. I've never cleaned up anything before, so all I could do was wander around in my chamber and hope someone would come. After pacing around a bit, I couldn't take it any longer. I extended my arm to press a button that would inform Nellie that I needed her. At the last second I pulled my arm away. “You can do this Reina, you do this. Just find the broom and dust pan and sweep. Nellie does it all the time, how hard could it be? But, first you gotta find where the broom and dustpan are...” I said putting my hands on my hips. I remembered that near the door there was a small closet for Nellie to keep the cleaning in. I quickly walked over to it and flung the door open. What stood before were things I had never seen before. A stick with spongey looking fabric on the end, bottles with weird colored liquid inside, a shorter stick with feathers on the end. I searched high and low for a broom and dust pan. “Aha!” I said loudly grabbing the broom. I held it high and examined it, it was surely a broom. And sure enough below it, was a dust pan! How convenient! Nellie sure is one organized maid. Then I turned and went towards the mess with cleaning supplies in hand. I had reached the spill and held the broom the best I could. I had the dust pan was held place by my foot. I then started brushing what was left of my vase into the pan. My grip on the broom feels a little odd, but I'm just not used to cleaning.
“Oh my god Reina! Are you ok? Why are your hands and arms so scratched?” Zander asked concerned. “I tired cleaning.” I answered embarrassed. He nodded and shoved a spoon full of soup into his mouth. “I sent the letter, it should be there by now. I'll tell you when they respond.” I said quietly between bites bread. Zander nodded again. “How was your day off?”he asked over the noise of the dining room. “It was, informative, educational, boring, nothing too special.” I answered. “Wink and I were gonna ride down to the creek. Wanna come with Isaac?” My heart skipped a beat. I date with Zander! He was my best friend and I've secretly always liked him/ it would just be me and him, well Wink and Isaac will be there but they're dragons. “Sure. What time.” I said coolly trying to cover my excitement. Inside I was jumping up and down screaming with joy. “How's 45 minutes sound?” “Great!” I responded. “Well I'm gonna go try to do some homework first. See ya Reina!” Zander said running off. As Zander ran off I returned to 'our' table. We sat here together for every meal. Sometimes with others, but usually not. After finishing my soup and angel food cake, I skip walked to my dorm. Once inside I placed my back against the door and slide down. I brought my knees to my chest and giggled a little. I mean how could I not, a date with my best friend! I stood up and brushed the dirt off my gown. I strolled over to my closet and looked for the perfect riding attire for tonight. I decided on beige pants, and a light green and light blue striped polo. I wore my regular helmet and boots though. Once dressed I sat down on the stool in front of my mirror and did my hair in a simple but pretty ponytail. My red hair shined brightly against my green and blue polo shirt. I walked over to the book case and pulled the book so Isaac would appear again. He was looking at me when I walked in. I quickly put on his saddle and harness. I jumped on and brought him out into my room. I glanced at the clock and saw I was five minutes early. “Isaac, we're going on a date with Zander. Well I am, you can say hi to Wink and stuff. But the point is, I want you to behave.” I said patting his neck. He turned his head to me and gave me look that said, “Yes, I understand.”. I looked down at his blue scales. “Water dragon, huh? Guess we'll see if my guess is correct. We are going to the creek.” I grinned in a slightly creepy way. “If the professors know that I know that your a water dragon they'll pass me for sure!” I said to myself. I flicked the reins, Isaac ran out the window and unfolded his wings. We sailed through the air to Zander's dorm. When we landed Zander was on Wink. He wave and I directed Isaac in that direction. My heart was beating very quickly and I can't understand why. I've know Zander for a long time, so why was I nervous. The only thing different was is that I was considering this a date. “Shall we go?” He said facing Wink towards the direction of the creek. I nodded, “Ok.” I flick the reins and Isaac started flying again. Wink and Zander were to my left Flying smoothly. We sailed through the clouds and did tricks from time to time. “Zander! I can do a flip now. Look, look!” I said. “Ok but go in front I have to steer Wink this time.” He replied. I flicked the reins and Isaac flew in front of Wink and Zander. I did rein movements and Isaac starting flying up and back. And before I knew it everything was no longer upside down, and I heard Zander clapping the best he could. “Wow you really improved.” He praised. “I must be a great teacher.” he continued. I couldn't help but laugh, his 'full of himself' moments always made me smile and laugh. “Look!” he said pointing up ahead. I turned my head from him to straight foreword. Above where the creek was a pink dragon flew in circles. “Isaac, roar.” I commanded. Isaac roared and sure enough the dragon turned and saw us and flew away faster than you could say 'dragon baby'. As we landed in the clearing near the creek I noticed some speckled dragon eggs. I hopped off Isaac to get a closer look. Zander followed me. “Crap, I think we just made a mistake...” I said shocked. “Well RDTA has an abandoned egg nursery. We'll just take them there.” Zander said staring at them. I looked at him, he was just so smart at times. If I was alone I would have made Isaac try to raise them. And male dragons aren't very good with dragon babies. “Oh yeah the creek!” I said turning away from the pile of eggs. Zander raised his eyebrow and gave me a little nod. He then took off running. I ran after him all the way to the creek, I heard Wink and Isaac walking behind us. We ran through the forest an eventually the peaceful like creel came into view. He tired to stop but the mud wouldn't let him stopped and he plowed into the small river bed. Some how I managed to stop in time and I didn't end up in the muddy river bank with him. I looked down to see Zander covered in mud and rubbing his head. My little giggles soon turned into a laughing fit. I was doubled over and laughing so hard that I was crying. After calming myself down a bit, I extended my hand out to help him. Zander accepted the help and got out of the river bank. “Guess a little swim will get rid of all the mud.” Zander stated. I stared at him, puzzled but what it meant. Then it hit me. “But why? Here? Now? With me watching? We're not even that good of friends, or are we?” I questioned silently. Isaac walked over to me and rubbed his head on me. Wink walked toward Zander, sniffed him, then walked away. In the midst of me asking all these questions Zander started taking off his shoes and socks. I kept my face as plain and non disturbed, confused, and creepy as possible. Even though my appearance said I didn't care, my mind was going crazy. “He was serious. He's peeling off everything? But I'm right here, did he forget me.” I thought quietly. I zoned out hoping to tune out all of the awkwardness, when I came back to reality, Zander was in the creek with only pants on. Wink trotted over to creek and stepped in. She immediately ran to Zander. They were playing some sort of game where you throw water at each other and chase each other. I watched extremely confused. “Was I supposed to join them?” I asked Isaac walking a little bit away from the creek. Isaac's expression stayed emotionless, and I had a feeling he was just as confused as me. I sat on a rock trying to think of ways to leave this awkward situation. “Oh! The eggs! I'll be back soon I'm just gonna go take them to the nursery.” I yelled jumping up. Zander glanced at me and nodded. “Can you bring me some new clothes? My room key's with my clothes.” he asked focusing on the water. “Sure...” I answered not knowing what to reply back. I quickly turned around and left. When I reached the egg pile I one-by-one put them in the little bag on Isaac's saddle. After I packed them I hopped on Isaac and guided him in the direction of the academy.
The fly back was long, boring, and quiet. When I saw the academy's tower in the distance I flicked the reins and Isaac flew faster. Within ten minutes all the eggs were put in the nursery and I was headed for the dorms for the kids who weren't nobles. I opened the door and it creaked loudly. The place looked old, but not in the nice way my dorm did. The glanced at the number on the key, room 502. “Fifth floor.” I told myself walking towards the stairs. I saw no one was around and I ran up the steps. After the second staircase I was breathing hard and was tired. I walked slowly up the rest of the way. Finally I had reached the correct floor. Room 502 was across from the stairs, which was very nice for me. I put the key in the lock and turned. Once I heard the click I pushed the door in and took out the key. And what stood before me was my best friend Zander Karl's dorm. The walls had wholes and the rug was old, faded and matted down. I entered with caution. I didn't even know the academy had such crappy rooms available. I went towards his bed under the window. Cleans clothes laid on the bed. He must have been talking about these. I picked them up and walked out of the old tattered little room. Once outside I gazed up at the sky. I had never realized how good I had it. I complained over everything, and Zander's life is 10x worse then mine and he never complains. No wonder he wants a new a dragon it's probably the first new thing he'll get for a long time. I walked towards Isaac and put the clothes in the saddle bag. I grabbed the reins from the side for so he knew to follow me. “We're going to see where Wink lives. After seeing that I'm curious.” I told him looking at the campus map. I've been here six years but I didn't know this part of campus. I studied the map for a good five minutes before realizing that dragon housing was across the tiny brick walkway. Still holding the reins I ran to the building, and sure enough, a large sign said “Dragon Housing”. I knocked on the door. A scruffy old man answered the door. He examined me closely before saying, “You look too nice to be here.”. “Um,” I started, “You're kinda right. It's just I want to board my dragon here for a day or so, but I would like to see the inside of your facility. If I'm not pleased, I won't board my dragon here, and I'll report you. Even this place should standards.” I stated while dropping the reins so I could cross my arms. The man just stood there, speechless. He then closed the door in my face. I opened my mouth to yell and make a huge fuss but I heard some locks opening. Isaac turned to the left and stared at the building. I looked too and a large door appeared. The man stood on the inside and waved me and Isaac in. Me and Isaac slowly and cautiously followed him in. “Well,” he started. “Our facilities are about 200 years old could probably use some updatin' but, we don't get any fundin'. Not 'uh, we were told to update the place when we had earned enough from the rent charges.” “Oh...” I said quietly. “The dragons are fed at 7am, 12pm, and 7pm. And they can receive a good night snack if the owner requests it, and pays the little snack fee.” He continued. “Mr.,” I started sweetly. He turned to me and Isaac while I brushed a piece of my red hair behind my ear. “Mr. Kuubles. Like 'Koo Koo!'.” he added. “Yes, Mr. Kuubles, I know this is completely random and I hope you'll excuse me for that. But, I'm the daughter of nobles, my twin brothers attended here, but since we're all noble children our dragons have stayed in the private little barns attached to the our rooms. But the point is my friend, Zander Karls boards his dragon, Wink here. He's not a child of nobles, and he's having trouble paying the rent for her, so if you would allow me to help out, I would be so grateful and I'm sure he would too. Please Mr. Kuubles, let me help him, charge the rent to my room!” I pleaded while I bowed the upper half of bottom down. He hadn't said anything for a while and I was getting more anxious each second. I lifted my head up and saw him scratching his chin. “Fine, I'll let you help. I'm really supposed to not have this happen, but sound like a sweet girl that just wants to help her friend.” He said nicely while patting my head. I put my arm around Isaac's neck, “Isaac says thanks too, he'd miss Wink if she was gone.” I said nodding Isaac's head gently up and down. Mr. Kuubles chuckled and informed me about the rent dates. He walked me to the exit of the old building. Once outside I hopped on Isaac and waved as we took off. I directed Isaac in the direction of where I had left Zander and Wink playing in the creek. “Faster Isaac.” I repeated the whole way there. Finally the creek appeared before us again and we landed softly. I grabbed his clothes and ran towards the creek, Isaac followed swiftly. I stopped short when I reached the creek. “I can't believe this...I can't, I just can't.” I started disgusted. My pupils grew small with surprise, shock, and anger “I can't believe you! After all I've done for you!” I screamed throwing Zander's clothes at him. I then turned and ran back towards Isaac, I felt Zander's, Wink's, and her eyes fall on me. I swung my leg over and flicked the reins as soon as I was steady. I then flew Isaac home wiping the tears from my eyes.
I sat curled up in a ball on my bed. My knees were up to my chest and I pressed my face into them. I heard Isaac clawing at the floor trying to get me to come tell him everything. The tears spilled from my eyes and I didn't want to see anyone, not even Isaac. I wiped my eyes with my handkerchief and slowly walked to the bookcase and opened it. I entered slowly and sat down on the chair I had in there. Isaac observed me in my horrible state, his eyes filled with concern. “Hi buddy.” I said weakly patting his snout. The Book was on the floor where I had left it. I picked up the Book and sat it on my lap. “Book, give me information on that attention seeker, Ryan Lan.” I said with my voice filled with hatred. “Ryan Lan, a senior at Royal Dragon Trainers Academy, like you Reina! She's a daughter of nobles, just like you too Reina! Despite her boyish name, she has been voted 'most attractive female' at RDTA for the past six years by the male students. She is the current dragon trainer for the guardian dragon, Moonlight. Moonlight is a guardian dragon raised at birth by Ryan's descendents. She has numerous awards for training and academics.” The book concluded. “Thank you.” I mumbled quietly and depressed. Ryan was my best friend, but she betrayed me a few years back. And now she had to come take Zander from me. “They were splashing water at each other!” I yelled throwing the intelligent book across the room. The book landed with a thud and moaned, “Reina, please learn how to control you anger.” Isaac gave me an understanding look. Isaac truly was my best friend, he would never betray me or anything. He was hip to my hop, the peanut to my butter, the dragon close to my heart. Yes, it sounds corny, but it's true, and I know he feels the same. We're very similar, both living in the shadows of older siblings, both have well known parents who we never see. We understood each other, many people trainers can't make a connection like that with their dragon. To them it's a partner ship to us, it's...it's a...a...it's...bonding time. I opened the cage door and slide inside. I ran towards him and flung my arms around him and sobbed. He lowered his head so we were eye level. But the book just had to the break the silence, “Aww this is so touching! I”m tearing up!” I slowly turned around and glared at them book. “You're a book! You don't have emotions! You can't cry! Now shut it!” I snapped loudly. When I finished my sentence I heard someone knock. I tensed up, not because of fight, but I knew I was the exact opposite of how we were expected to look. And I couldn't pretend I wasn't here because I've been sobbing loudly and yelling at inanimate objects for the past 20 minutes of so. I exited the room where Isaac was and looked through the little peek hole in the door. There she stood, in all her glory, Ryan Lan. I banged on the door and yelled, “Go away! It's all you fault!” She looked back at the little peek hole even though she couldn't see me, “Aww, is poor baby Reina hurt?” Ryan then frowned and rubbed her eyes in a mocking manor. “That's it...” I muttered furious. I flung open the door, I didn't care if she saw how wrinkled my clothes were, or how messed up hair, or even my face looked. I glared at her, my eyes were narrow and filled with hatred, fury, and betrayal. She stared back at me, arms crossed. “And you wonder why I ditched, and back stabbed you. You're a cry baby brat who whines over everything and is conceited. My mind went blank, I couldn't think of anything to say back. The only thing I could think of doing was punching her or doing something of that matter. I didn't care if it wasn't 'proper'. Without thinking I thrust my fist and nailed her in the upper arm. I was aiming for her face but she only half dodged. Ryan's arm flew to her left upper arm. And she started gasping a but, which highly confused me. It's not like I hit her in the gut and knocked the wind out of her, it was probably just unexpected. After watching for a while I had realized what I had done. My hands flew to my mouth and I crouched down her. “Oh my god! I don't know what came over me! I'm so sorry Ryan, can I help you up. Oh, I'm so sorry.” I said starting freak out extending my hand. Ryan's right hand came off of her arm and slapped hand and then my face. Trying to get up she glared at me. I rubbed my cheek staring back shocked both at her actions, and mine. Once up her stare got colder. Uncomfortable I rocked back and fourth slowly stepping back towards my door. “You- you- you..” Ryan started while stuttering. “ you- you- bitch! You Reina Shay, are a bitch!” Ryan then stumbled out down the hall. I watched and I then realized that I forgot that I hadn't asked about her and Zander. I knew it was too late and closed my door and ran towards Zander's dorm, I had to get there first and tell him what really happened. Not some made up drama version. I ran through the countless halls and staircases looking like mess, my dorm mates watched me dash past. I finally reached the exit I continued my run. I saw a figure and shadow in the distance. “Yes! I'm not too late!” I mumbled. Zander saw me and walked towards me, Wink silently followed him. He was wearing the fresh clothes I had brought him. “That was not what it looked- wait what happened to your face?” He asked concerned pointing at my red right cheek. “Ryan. And what were you doing?” I asked not making eye contact. “she showed up and got in the creek and started walking towards. I started splashing her hoping she hated getting her face wet or something. Once she heard you she splashed me back and started laughing as if this was planned. I yelled your name but I don't think you heard.” He finished. “Well thanks for the complete true story.” I said leaving out the whole part out about me and Ryan getting in a fight. “Oh yeah,” I started again, “I'm helping pay Wink's rent.” I said waving the paper in front of his face. Zander's expression went grateful and he hugged me. I tried to hold back the treas and somehow I did. I have had a very emotional day so far and all I wanted to do was cry. He then pulled away and stared at the ground. “So you saw my room?” he said quietly. I nodded. “It's not exactly luxurious, but it does it's job and houses me. Your room is big, grand, and perfect. I live in a small shabby room, but...” he couldn't finish his sentence. “I never knew how bad it was for you.” I started. He kept eye contact with the ground. I gently lifted his head and hugged him. I could tell that his day was stressful too. Suddenly our little 'hug session' was interrupted by Ryan. She fake limped over and pointed at me. “That bitch slapped me!” She yelled. “Make her pay, Zandy.” she whined. “Sorry.” he replied. “You never told me you hit her too!” he whisper yelled at me. I smiled and explained that I wasn't thinking straight. He accepted the explanation and turned back to Ryan. “Ryan, we never had a 'thing' going. So please stop acting like it. I like Reina more and I've known her longer.” He said nicely. “And why would you want a peasant, like me?” “She wants you, so there must be a reason.” Ryan answered. “Well, tell me when you have to answer.” Zander said pushing her away. “She finally gone.” I said relieved. “By the way, why do you like me?” Zander asked. “I saw that coming.” I started out jokingly. “Well, you have a great personality, and your sweet. Also you're a great friend” I answered. I then stared up at the sun setting. “Thanks.” he said quietly after a long pause. “Isn't Gir beautiful?” I asked still staring at the landscape. “Not as beautiful as you, Reina.” he answered. I looked at him. He said I was beautiful when I look straight up like crap. My hair and dress were horrendous. And I had tears stains all over my cheeks. My chest felt warm and tight. Love, it's a wonderful thing. But it's not quiet the thing to have with your best guy friend.
The bright Thursday morning light rushed in my rooms as Nellie pulled back the curtains. I squinted as she quietly tidied up the room a bit. She saw me staring at her and bowed her head. “Morning, Miss Shay. How may I be of assistance?” “Nothing at the moment.” I responded. “Now I just need to get changed and head to breakfast. And Nellie have any letters arrived?” I asked sitting up. “No miss, Sebastian would have stopped by, and we haven't seen him since he left three days ago.” Nellie replied opening my wardrobe door. I walked towards the wardrobe and everything was neatly organized. Riding clothes folded neatly on the bottom shelf, school gowns hanging nicely above on the left side, formal gowns hanging on the right, and shoes were down in the little cubby section at the bottom. I grabbed a clean school gown and went to the place where I keep school tights. I then hurried to the bathroom and changed quickly so I wouldn't be late for breakfast. Nellie opened the door for me as I ran as nicely as I could down the semi-narrow corridor. Once outside I checked to make sure no one was around before I starting running again. The giant, ancient clock tower in the middle of campus said 8:07 am. I was seven minutes behind schedule. Once inside I fixed my dress and hair, then proceeded to the different breakfast stations. After I quickly grabbed a bagel, two pieces of toast, and a mini waffle and went off to find Zander. Sure enough when I found him Ryan was butting in again. She was sitting to his left talking about nonsense. I sat down on his right I cut my waffle into small pieces while she carried on about a story about a mouse soldier. Zander's head rested on his hand while he stared off into space, and I ate my breakfast. Finally she got the idea we didn't care and walked away claiming she had promised to meet some friends at the small pond. I tired to contain my happiness while she walked away. “Good morning.” Zander said tiredly. I munched on my food before replying, “Good morning, so how are you?” He looked at me before looking down at his plate. “Still hungry.” he said depressed. “ Since I'm not a child of nobles, I've been given food limitations.” Shocked, I looked at him with caring eyes. He's probably been going to every class hungry everyday, when I've been over eating. I put my bagel on his plate, “Here, I took too much so it's yours.” he gave me the you-don't-have-to-do-this look. But I keep telling him to eat it. “But you're already doing so much for me, I don't know how to repay you.” he repeated between bits. “Just be my partner for when we go on quests, that's all I'll charge.” I replied moving onto my toast. Zander finished the bagel and checked the time. “Crap, class is in ten minutes, and I left my books in my room!” he said standing up. I shoved a piece of toast in my mouth and ran to the dirty breakfast tray pile. We both had dragon history together in the morning. I than speed-walked out of the lunch room and to my dorm once outside. Nellie was still there and let me in after one knock. I ran to the bookcase and pulled on the 'special' book. The door slide open and ran inside and grabbed my books. “Bye Nellie!” I shouted running out the door. After a short jog I had made it with two minutes to spare. Zander arrived right as I sat down. We then both breathed a sigh of relief. “Morning.” I mumbled between heavy breaths, “I have the lowest stamina.” Zander nodded and mouthed morning. “Wink, she's-” he started but was cut short. Professor Klike stood before us, arms crossed and an irritated expression crossed his face. “I'm deeply sorry, Professor Klike. You won't catch us again.” I told him in my sweet innocent voice. I saved it for times like this, no professor could say anything harsh back, it was too sweet sounding, it's my secret weapon. “It's ok Miss. Shay. But you Mr. Karls, I'm afraid I'll need to see you after class.” Zander sunk in his chair. It was very obvious that the teacher favored nobles, all non-noble students were put down. They were given crappy rooms, harder work, and less money for food, text books, and other necessary things. “Professor Klike! It's my fault! I asked him a question. Don't punish him punish me if you must.” I standing up. Professor Klike had been walking to his desk but turned around. “Ok, but only this time.” he stated proceeding to his desk. I sat back down happy that I had gotten my best friend out of trouble. Zander gave me a grateful expression and slight nod. I looked back at him and smiled. My little act of kindness greatly brightened his mood. I then focused back on Professor Klike's lesson. “Now students,” he started, “Your final examine on Dragon Training History will be in two weeks. This test is extremely large, counts as 80% of your grade. If you do poorly on this examine, you will more than likely be stuck with me and the rest of your professors for another year.” A few classmates gasped at the large percentage, others scribbled down the test date down, and a few just sat there. Me and Zander being in the few that just sat there. Professor Klike then continued with the boring final lessons on Dragon Training History.
The clock in the middle of campus had just stuck 11 and I ran out into the fresh night air. The wind from me running made my school gown flow out into a burgundy trail. I had were out stretched and I was giggling between breaths. Firefly's flickered all over the empty field. My red hair was now long and flowed down my back. I ran and then stopped short. A cliff that lead to a bottomless pit had suddenly appeared. “When did this happen?” I questioned myself out loud. “It's always been here.” a low voice answered. “I've been on campus here for six years and this abyss hasn't been here.” I quietly responded. “Your not on campus, Reina.” the voice answered. I turned around and my heart skipped a beat. There stood the long graceful dragon from my dream. I took a sudden step back and heard the earth crumble. At the sound of the crackle I lurched forward and bumped into the yellow dragons painted face. It's eyes still were outlined by beautiful black lines. “Where am I then?” I asked slightly terrified. “You'll find out after you train Isaac. Then you'll learn my name Reina.” the slender dragon replied. “Now,” he said looking deep into my eyes, “perhaps you already know my name.” I gulped and thought about his question deeply. 'How could I know his name I've only seen him once before in my past dream. I won't know until I train him.' “I'm sorry, I don't know! And you said I would learn, so it's not possible I could know it now” I said before turning my head away “Tell me!” he roared. “I can't!” I shouted back. The yellow dragon bent his head back and lightning strikes shot out. Terrified I looked around to see if there was a way to escape. The eerie dark abyss stared at me. “I don't wanna do this.” I muttered. “Then tell me, what is my name!” “You know your name, not me!” “You know my name as well!” “I don't know your damn name!” I then looked straight ahead at the pit. Getting on a dragon's nerves was risky and I had already gone way past 'getting on his nerves'. But the dragon hadn't hurt me yet, maybe because I trained him. I don't, but I can't take chances. “Leave me alone!” I screamed picking up my skirt and running towards the dark pit. “Sorry Mother, Father, Axel, Alec, Wink, Zander, Isaac...” I mumbled before jumping into the abyss. “You, you fool! I won't let you get away!” I heard the dragon yell. The darkness engulfed me and I knew it wouldn't be much longer before I hit the ground.
My eyes flashed open only to see the ceiling of my bed chamber. I sat up breathing heavily and looked around my room. “It was a dream. Another dream with dragons. The yellow one from before.” I whispered. “The dreams are peaks into the future.” I mumbled remembering what the book had said. I pulled my knees to my chest. “My future...it's awful, terrible frightening, dark....I don't care, I don't want to fulfill the prophecy.” 'Maybe there's a way out of this.' I thought. I jumped out bed and ran to the bookcase and opened the door. Isaac was still asleep as I strolled in. Silently, I crept over to where I had thrown the book to. I picked up it up and walked out with out shutting the door. I whispered, “Book, sorry about last time, but are you willing to help me?” I stared longing for an answer from the Book. After what seemed like ages it replied, “Fine. How may I be of assistance?” I squealed and my hands flew to my mouth trying to muffle the sound. I could hear Isaac stirring in his sleep and I calmed myself down. “Well remember how I asked about my dragon dream a while ago? I've had another...” I said quietly. “Really? How peculiar! Tell me more! Y'know, that way I can help you.” the book excitedly responded. “Well, this time I saw one of the dragons from before. And he was very calm and nice at first, but then he asked if I knew his name. He told me I would learn it but asked if I already knew by some chance. I replied 'no' and he went mad, absolutely mad. And he was breathing lightning bolts everywhere. I had no other choice, or rather escape routes than a near by abyss. I jumped in and then woke up.” “It means, your training that dragon next, he can breath lightning, where you're going there will be an abyss, you'll later jump into the abyss and be saved. But I can't tell you how you'll be saved.” “How do you know I'll be saved?” “Well you'll still have five other dragons to train.” “Thanks Book, you're very helpful.” I said smiling. “You very welcome.” It replied. Carefully, I set the book down on a small table near the window. I paced back in forth in my room, still in my night gown. I heard Isaac yawn loudly and I scurried over to the bookcase. I hide myself so all that could be seen was my head. “Morning buddy.” I cooed. Isaac's golden eyes stared at me. They seemed to say, “Good morning to you too, Reina. What are we gonna do today? Are we gonna go see Wink and Zander?” I went towards his cage, and he put his head near the side. I got there and stroked his head. “Lemme get dressed, then we'll go to breakfast. I'll be sure to tell Nellie to clean your cage today.” I said while patting the side of his and staring at the bottom of his dirty cage. I then quickly walked over to my wardrobe and picked out my school clothes. Within ten minutes my hair was done, I was fully dressed, and Isaac had his harness on. I didn't bother putting his saddle on because I didn't plan on riding him. Isaac and I slowly walked to dining hall. “I'm going to grab a bagel and then I'll be back. You should be safe but cause a commotion if something happens.” I told the blue dragon walking away backwards. He gave me stare that told me he understood. I smiled before turning and running into the building. I swerved through the clouds and found the bagels. 'Dragons are so smart, no wonder humans have relied on them for centuries.' I thought while choosing a bagel. I picked the bagel up and looked around to make sure none of my professors were around before holding it in my mouth. My hands held my skirt up about ankle height while I ran through the crowds and out of the building. As I neared the exit I heard an ear shattering roar. “Oh no.” I muttered thinking the worst. I lifted my one hand from skirt so I could push through the crowd easier. 'I'm close, just a little farther.' I told my safe thrusting the door open. Outside I saw her a tight rope around Isaac's slender neck. Ryan stood there laughing maliciously. The rope wasn't around Isaac's mouth but the harness was. He roared but they were muffled. Ryan must have tightened it since the time I had heard him roar. “This is what you get.” Helpless I stood there. Fighting back tears I tried thinking of things that would get her to stop. “You can have Zander! Please just give Isaac back!” I hollered. “Too late, I like someone new now.” she scoffed. “Then why are you doing this?” I asked sobbing. “Why does a peasant like you deserve to know?” “My family's wealthier and more well known than your's!” I shot back harshly. She glared at the good point I had made. “Sorry but you're not getting him back unless you can defeat me.” Ryan yelled hopping on Isaac's back. “Stop! Please! I'll give you money! Anything really!” I pleaded sobbing even heavier. But it was too late they were already flying high above me and we starting to fly in the direction of the creek. “No!” I screamed, “Get back here you, bitch! Only cowards run away get back here and fight! No! No, no, no, no!...Please.” I fell to my knees and doubled over. I kept my face hidden as I sobbed uncontrolably. I could hear people pass by, they whispered things. My bagel was gone, Isaac was gone, and breakfast was over. Ryan was going out of the campus boarders to most likely kill Isaac, and I can't stop her. I wouldn't get there in time by running. And now in the midst of my depression it started raining. Just like in those cheesy moments in movies.
Part 2
My head rested on Zander's shoulders, and he gently patted my back. Nellie stood near by holding a few handkerchiefs. My face was pale and tear streaked. It had been two weeks since Ryan had taken Isaac. I never bothered closing the bookcase door, so every time I laid down on my bed the empty cage stared back at me and tears would start flowing again. The worst part was going to every professor and explaining what had happen, none of them took action and they just let Ryan continue on with her daily life. The school ended soon and I had no dragon to practice on I sent another letter out, but it was regular delivery, not express delivery by Sebastian. I slowly lifted my head and Zander sat back. “You can use Wink for everything, she likes you.” Zander said. “Thanks, I might need to. But I might be able to get Isaac back.” I said walking towards the small table near the window. “Shall I prepare the cage and food supplies?” Nellie asked. “Yes.” I replied picking up the Book. “Book, a tragedy has happened within the last month. Isaac has been stolen. With your great and ever updating knowledge, is it safe that I can presume that you have a map of current dragon sightings?” “Miss Reina I had no idea that Isaac had been taken. And yes here it is.” The Book said flipping to a page. “This is a live map of dragons in the surrounding area right outside out campus. The pictures of the moving dragons are the same color they are. Any look like Isaac?” my expression brightened and Zander walked over to look too. I motion Nellie over, one more pair of eyes couldn't hurt. “Reina look! A blue and beige dragon, it could be Isaac. Mr. Book is that dragon male?” Zander said pointing towards the upper left corner. “Yes sir.” “Zoom in.” I commanded, “Does this map also show people?” “Yes, Reina.” “It's Isaac, and look that must be her.” “How wonderful Reina!” Nellie exclaimed. The door knocked and we all calmed down. Nellie walked over and answered the door. There stood Headmaster Fin and Sebastian. “He has a letter for you.” Headmaster Fin said. I walked over and took the letter. “How's the search going?” he suddenly asked. “I believe we have a good lead. Would you like to see.” I said stepping aside and motioning to the Book. “Alright.” he answered walking over to where Zander and the Book were. “Zander, please explain our findings to Headmaster Fin, Book you may also help.” I said looking for a letter opener. Zander then started explaining the live map to him. Nellie handed me a letter opener because I couldn't find one. I tore open the letter and inside was a small letter and tons of money. The note read,
“Reina,
We have fulfilled your request. Here's money for Wink's rent. It's very nice of you to offer to do that, but please ask permission next time. Love you.
Sincerely,
Mother and Father
I grabbed the money and pulled Zander aside. “Headmaster, I'm gonna let the Book finish.” Zander said as I pulled on his sleeve. “Here's the money from my parents.” I whispered. “Thanks, Reina. Wink and I are forever grateful. As I said before, you can ride Wink for the tests if you have to.” he whispered back. I quickly pulled him in for a hug. Headmaster Fin turned around to ask a question, but he caught us mid-hug. I staggered away and sweetly said, “Sorry about that. What was your question?” He gently shook his head. “I was wondering where you got this marvelous book. But it seems you are busy at the moment. Good luck on your search.” Headmaster Fin then hurried out of the room. Nellie closed the door and Sebastian stayed in the back of the room near Nellie. “I'll call you guys when I need you again.” I said. Sebastian and Nellie bowed before leaving the room. “Go to your dorm get changed into something comfy and get Wink ready. Try to be ready in ten minutes. We have a dragon to save.” I said grabbing his shoulders. “What about weapons?” Zander asked. “I'll take of that. Ryan can probably only steer a dragon. You'll be steering and I'll be fighting, it works out fine.” I answered. Zander nodded and walked towards the door. “I'll hurry!” he shouted while running down the way. I waved and then closed the door to get what I needed. “I sure hope this whole thing isn't for nothing.” I said to myself.
I stood in the middle of the campus and waited impatiently for Zander and Wink. My feet were planted in the ground, I have to admit, I was kinda nervous. But I have to show her that she messed with the wrong dragon trainer. Zander then flew in on Wink, also looking very on edge. “Weapons?” he asked. I held out my hands. I was holding two swords, a lightening rod. One sword was a spare and I'm hoping the lightening rod maybe be able to pick up some electricity, because if it does I now have a lightening sword. “Think we're wearing the right clothing?” Zander said studying my clothing. I was wearing normal riding clothes. “We'll be careful.” I said in a confident voice. I walked towards Wink and swung my leg over. “Onward.” I commanded. Zander got Wink to nice a height, but he remembered something very important. “The Book! Where's the Book? Did you bring? Reina, you do have the Book right?” he questioned nervously. “I”m here.” the Book replied from my lap. “Directions?” Zander asked. “Head towards the Quel Mountains, then when they are in sight lower your altitude by about 35 feet and as you approach the mountain you will find a cave. Go inside the cave and...TAA DAA!” the Book instructed. I laughed and the 'TAA DAA!' Book always knew how to lighten the mood.
After a while I checked the small clock that Book had brought up for me. Two hours had past since we had left the academy, and I was getting a little cramped. Wink yawned but it didn't harm her flying. “Book, how much-” I started, but Zander cut me off with, “Look! I see it.” His voice was calm with a hint of confidence. “What were you asking, Reina?” the Book asked quietly. “Nothing. Just forget about it.” I told it. I looked up and I was amazed at this beautiful landscape in front of me. The mountains were tall with soft rounded sides and the top was rounded off. Each mountain top was lightly decorated with snow, towards the middle you could see little green dots. “Are those green dots trees?” I asked Zander. “What else could they be?” he answered. Satisfied with the answer I focused back on the mountains. Ryan chose the most beautiful place for a hideout. Gir had many natural beauties, I never thought I'd see one without Isaac. But at least I was with Zander and Wink, my other two best friends. “I sense that you are in the mountains, by the breeze and temperature, I believe that you are at the correct height. Now just look for a cave.” The Book announced. “Hopefully there aren't many caves.” I muttered. But I was wrong there were hundreds of caves at least three on each pretty mountain. “Book! How are we supposed to find one cave out all of these?” I asked angrily. “Look for a suitable one to be a hideout. Perhaps there will be a torch light showing if you look hard enough. And Ryan must be able to find it herself so there's something distinctive about it from the others.” The Book said some helpful things but finding a cave sounded much easier this morning when I didn't know there were hundreds of caves. “Wait, Zander, can't dragons smell other dragons?” I asked suddenly. “You're right! Great thing Reina!” Zander excitedly said back. “Wink, find Isaac.” Zander commanded. Wink lifted her head a little high and snorted. I felt our speed pick up and I knew she had a lead. As we dodged mountains quickly I held tightly onto the weapons and the Book. Zander sat back and enjoyed the ride, after all Wink was doing everything at the moment. Zander looked down below and he watched the world pass quickly below. He looked up and gasped. It caught my attention and I had the exact same reaction. Wink was flying full speed into a mountain. There wasn't a cave or anything. Zander desperately pulled on the reins but his efforts were futile. Wink wasn't gonna stop. Weapons in one hand and Book in the other I hugged Zander from behind, careful not to poke him. I press my eyes shut and waited for Wink's suicide mission to end, but it never came. I felt the air become considerably cooler and I slowly opened my eyes and unwrapped my arms from around Zander. Wink stopped inside a secret tunnel inside a mountain. “Wink, I told you to find Isaac and Ryan, not a secret tunnel. Even if it is a cool secret tunnel.” Zander told Wink as he hopped off. I hopped of as well and scanned the area. A blue mass caught my eye and next to the blue mass was a person. “I don't think she's completely wrong. In fact, I think she's onto something.” I said setting the book down on Wink's saddle. I handed Zander one of the swords and I motioned for him to follow me. I started towards the blue mass and sure enough it was a blue dragon and Ryan. “Isaac..” I whispered. The blue dragon turned around and looked at me with it's golden eyes. “I finally found you...” I muttered. “So it is Isaac. I should trust Wink more.” Zander muttered in reply. I nodded in agreement before standing before Ryan and Isaac. “So, it seems you found me. Bravo, bravo.” Ryan said while her dragon Midnight approached towards Ryan. “Give him back.” I ordered. “Or else we're gonna have to use these.” I lifted up my sword and got into a stable stance. Zander did the same and he yelled, “Explain to me why you took Isaac? What have Reina and Isaac done to you?” “Guess it's time for a little flashback.” Ryan announced.
“Eight years ago, Reina and I raced our dragons. Midnight wasn't well trained and Isaac was. I was jealous, so I for the next three months I trained Midnight long and hard. When we met again Reina was completely shocked that I had won. It was the exact result I was hoping for but after me winning over and over again she stopped playing with me. Such a sore loser.” Ryan concluded. “Reina, you said she betrayed you, this just sounds like you being upset over losing.” Zander added. “She's not telling the whole story. Many pieces and parts are missing from her story. Fortunately for me but misfortune for her, I know the truth.” I started glaring at Ryan. She ignored my glare and stroked Midnight's nose. Midnight yawned and I started to recollect the memories. “Like Ryan said, it was eight years ago, and we did race dragons. It is true that she trained Midnight and started beating me left and right. But what she left out was that I invited her over one afternoon. Up until that day we were best friends, or at least that's what I thought. But that night when she came over she started insulting me and Isaac, saying we were worthless and stupid. After she badgered me with her criticism about me and Isaac she concluded with saying that she had always hated me and Isaac. As you can image I was bawling my eyes out, by best friend had be a phony. Fortunately, Alec and Axel heard me crying and they kicked her out and they told her that if she came back she would be set in front of my parents for a long talk. And she swore to hurt me and Isaac as she left. She did us by stealing Isaac. I'm telling you Zander, she enjoys seeing me in pain.” I looked back at Zander, his eyes moved from Ryan to me. “Sorry Ryan, but I've known Reina longer. And her story's a lot more believable.” Zander said moving next to me. “Wrong choice!” Ryan bellowed. Suddenly, Midnight opened her mouth and breathed lightening. “Zander! The lightening rod, maybe we can use their own force against them!” I whispered. “Great thinking, I'll go get it. Just dodge everything until I return.” Zander replied. “Great, go, hurry!” I muttered. “Has that really been your story for the last eight years? It's mostly lies, anyone to believe you is a complete fool!” I shouted at her. Ryan's rage increased and Midnight roared loudly. Isaac looked at me, he looked helpless. He was chained to the floor, but his eyes told me, 'Fight. You can win this if you fight correctly. Plan your moves carefully. Then we'll be reunited. '
My knees were to my chest as I waited for Zander. If I kept insulting her I'd be killed before Zander returned. “Reina! I got!” Zander shouted running towards me. I jumped up and ran towards him to share the plan I came up with while hiding. “Fools! You just exposed yourself!” Ryan shouted. “Midnight, lightening shock!” she commanded pointing at us. The sleek black dragon's head went back and lightening strikes appeared in the dragon's mouth. Midnight brought her head forward and out quickly and released the lightening. I stood behind Zander, arms in front of my head and waited to see if the pole worked. Zander held the lightening rod steady as the lightening impacted it. We were unharmed. I smiled and yelled, “Now we can use this against you!” Ryan gasped and ordered and another command. But Zander shot the lightening bolt back, hitting Midnight's horns. She roared in pain and shook her head violently trying to cool down the burn sensation on her horns. I looked at Isaac and he nodded. “You fiends! Now you've done it!” Ryan shouted hopping on Midnight's back and exiting the cave. Ryan and Midnight fled the cave, but it was too early for the battle to end. We were just getting started. It won't end until I am back with Isaac, Zander, and Wink at RDTA. “Come on!” I said grabbing Zander's arm. We ran to Wink, ready to finish Ryan off. Zander gave me lightening rod as soon as we were both on Wink. He flicked the reins and Wink proceeded to leave the cave the same way Ryan and Midnight had seconds before. Zander directed Wink to follow Midnight's scent. As we soared in pursuit, high above the world in the mountains, I stood up on Wink's saddle and steadied myself before picking up the lightening rod. “Remember, we can't fight without Midnight's lightening. Without lightening, it's just a metal pole.” I told Zander. He nodded and flicked the reins for Wink to go faster. Wink suddenly made a sharp left turn. The momentum of the wind from the turn knocked me off my feet. I held onto the edge of the saddle, knowing that if my hand slip I was done for. I'd lose Isaac, Zander, Axel and Alec, and my life. I thrust the lightening rod back into case quickly before tugging on Zander's pants. Zander looked down at me, probably expecting me to give orders, so his face went white when we saw my actually scenario. “Wink! Careful on the turns!” Zander yelled dropping the reins. He sat on his knees and held out his hands. He extended his one hand, I quickly let go of the saddle and grabbed it. “Just one more!” Zander shouted. “But what if I bring you done with me?” I shouted back. “Stop worrying about the little things!” he responded. “Losing your life isn't little!” “Just take my hand! Do want to lose your life?” I hesitated and looked down. “And we're losing precious battle time!” he added. I pressed my eyes shut before letting go of the saddle. I felt myself starting to sink, but the sinking feeling stopped and I slowly opened my eyes. I looked up at Zander. “We're almost there.” he told me, “Just hold on.” “Like I have a choice.” I sighed. Wink darted into another secret cave in a mountain. Zander let go of my hands, and I landed on the cave floor. It felt nice to feel ground again. “We're not done yet!” Zander shouted hopping off. “Neither are we!” Ryan said lifting her right arm. Midnight shot more lightening again. I held the rod out and collected the lightening before shooting it back at them. The blow landed inches from Ryan's head. She ducked and reached behind a rock. She pulled out a sword and laughed. I held the lightening rod tightly and Zander unsheathed his sword. Ryan's hair blew in the gentle breeze of the cave as she slowly walked forward. Zander lunged forward just barely missing her arm. Ryan copied the lunge, but she seems to have forgotten that she was in her school gown. The burgundy gown ripped all the way up the left side. Zander smirked at the fact that he was able to move freely in school pants. His actions always made me laugh no matter the situation. But I was in the same situation as Ryan, school gowns provided limited movement. Zander and Ryan shuffled in a circle, swords out in front, waiting for their opponet to make their move. 'I can't help in this gown!' I told myself running for the book. I ran to Wink and went for the saddle bag, and pulled out the book. I doubt the book could sew me battle worthy clothes, but I try. “Book! I need to fighting clothes!” I whispered. “I thought you'd never figure out school clothes aren't good for this.” it responded. “So...” I started. “Turn the page, then go change behind a rock. If your friend needs clothes then tell 'em they're covered.” the Book answered. I turned the page and saw what looked like the clothes from both of my dreams. The short brown top and skirt, it didn't look protective at all but Book wouldn't give me anything harmful. I set the lightening rod down on Wink's saddle, went towards the closet rock and changed into the embarrassing outfit. “Book I hate you some times.” I said shoving my gown into the bag, “Now Book, Wink, I have a battle to win.” I said picking the lightening rod back up and heading back towards the middle of the cave.
I approached the center of the cave to see Zander breathing heavily. Ryan was propped up against the side cave with a bloody gown. She glared at me weakly. “Key?” I asked Zander. He shook his head and I sighed. Zander examined me confused. “Book got me new clothes, but it's a little late from what I see.” I told him. He held the bloody sword down down at his side. “Midnight's gone.” he said looking straight ahead. “No she isn't.” Ryan growled. She slowly looked up at us, eyes glowing with fury. Ryan stood up, stumbling to keep her balance. Ryan's right side was covered in blood, I assumed that was the blow that brought her down. She placed both of her hands on the wound. Suddenly a giant gust of wind came in making her hair blow high above her head. A bright flash or light appeared, blinding us both. Once our eyes had gone back to normal we realized that Ryan had healed herself. “What the...!” Zander started. “This just got a lot harder.” I muttered softly. Midnight slowly walked out of the wall behind Ryan. Ryan turned to Midnight, and the dragon shot more lightening. I held the rod out as I screamed, “How did she heal herself? Is that even natural?” Zander grabbed my arm and ran towards the back of the cave. “More importantly, do you have a plan?” he asked between breaths. “No.” I responded. “Well, get one while I got get clothes from book. Here, take the sword too.” He said letting go of my arm. We stopped running and he handed me the sword. I now had two weapons, both I could barely use. I turned and set the sword down quietly. I held the fully charged lightening rod in front of me. Ryan appeared next to Midnight back in the center of the room. “I can't just injure her, I have to kill her. Aim for the heart!” I yelled lunging the lightening rod towards Ryan chest. She swiftly dodged and ordered another lightening shock. I jumped high into the air and captured the lightening. Ryan was only adding power to her defeat. I heard the beating of wings and turned around. I saw Zander on top of Wink holding the sword. He wore a brown and white vest and plain brown pants. Book had organized matching outfits for us, great. He lowered Wink and I hopped on. “It's an air battle you want, eh?” Ryan whispered turning to Midnight. She hopped on and ordered the black dragon to fly. I stood up as Zander flicked the reins. Wink quickly flew towards the exit of the cave. I ducked as we exited and looked behind me. Ryan was using my technique. She stood on the dragons back holding a sword. “Get closer.” I ordered. Wink's lightened her speed and we fell behind to where Ryan and Midnight were. The dragon shot lightening up into the Quel mountain sky. But the lightening was attracted to the metal pole held tightly in my hands. Ryan brought Midnight closer and sung the sword, missing me by inches. I held the lightening rod out and aimed it right for her heart. Ryan looked up at me and flung the sword down on top of the rod. I lost my balance, but didn't fall or drop the rod. Fortunately I hand a strong grip and was able to reposition it again quickly. The lightening shot out a hit her right in the chest. Ryan stumbled backwards and fell off of Midnight. The dragon roared, knowing it's owner was killed. “Nice!” Zander praised, “But your job's not over.” Midnight flew beside us roaring in defeat, but I wasn't going to let her go. I dropped the lightening rod and picked up the sword. I gulped and turned to Zander. I bent down and hugged him. He turned his head slightly and I kissed his cheek. “Why?” he asked confused. “Just in case this doesn't go as planned.” I answered standing up. He watched me go towards the edge. “No.” he said quietly. “Yes.” I replied. I bent my knees before springing into the air, sword held high above my head. As gravity brought me down I swung the sword down, chopping Midnight's head off. As I plummeted down to my death the decapitated dragon body passed me. At the speed I was going at, there was no chance of survival. I held the sword tightly as I extended my arms and legs out, making my body into an 'X'. I closed my eyes and waiting for the ground to hit me.
I finally hit something, but it wasn't the ground. I opened my eyes to see a blue head attached to a long blue neck. “Isaac? Am I dead” I whispered sitting up. The dragon turned his head. “Isaac!” I screamed throwing the sword down. I threw my arms around his neck, he was finally with me again. I looked up and no longer saw the Quel mountains. 'Isaac must be heading home.' I thought. I laid back on his saddle and looked up at the evening sky. “Isaac, are Zander and Wink ok?” I asked. Of course, no response. I turned my head and watched his wings, up-down-up-down. As I laid there I heard a voice, “They're ok. And we're stopping some where before home.” I sat up and looked around. I knew it wasn't my imagination. I panned the area but there was nothing they sky surrounding us. I shrugged and tried to forget about the voice. But soon Isaac took me some where I'm familiar with. It was a eerie forest, with hundreds of trees. Isaac lowered and we swerved between the trees. I heard owls crying, “Who, who! Who, who!” Isaac bolt forward and a lake appeared in the center of the forest. He lowered and I cautiously hopped off. Issac walked towards the lake and roared. The water flew up high into the air. I watched the water float high above me. Isaac blew into the air and the water disappeared. My mouth hung open in amazement. Was Isaac really a water dragon? I always thought they were fictional. Isaac walked into the dry lake leading me towards the center. Suddenly the ground started shaking, trees rose from the ground along with a round pedestals. Isaac nudged me onto the center pedestal before walking to a pedestal across from mine. Suddenly six other dragons appeared from the lush forest. It looked just like my dream. “Book was right, my dream was a sign...” I mumbled. The other dragons took their places, in the same pattern they were in my dream. The yellow and green one were closet to me, the purple and gray dragons were in the middle, and Isaac was between a black dragon and a white dragon. All the dragons sat before me, staring at me, like they were expecting something of me. I stood there speechless, wondering if the rest of my dream was real. But I didn't want to run away, like how I did in my dream. The seven dragons all tilt their heads back, and opened their large mouths. Shoots of light shot of each one of their mouths. Issac's was blue, the black one's black, the white one's white and so on. Slowly I started floating up into the air. Isaac closed his mouth and brought his head down and looked at me. He was consumed in blue light, I floated towards him. I stared at him completely confused. “Isaac, what's going on?” I asked with a little panic in my voice. His eye's were soon level with mine. The large yellow eye's gazed into my soul. Then he opened his mouth and bite me. Issac was not a small dragon, my whole middle body was in his mouth. I tried to break free but it was no use. He then released his grip on my body, sending my limp body back down onto the pedestal. Everything ached, the pain's unbearable. I was on my hands and knees breathing heavily, that's when a powerful feeling went through my body. The power was indescribable, it gave me strength. I looked up and saw the six dragons still with their heads up. Isaac sat next to me. “Reina, do you feeling the connection between us? It's because you received my bite, without we couldn't talk.” Isaac told me. I looked up at blue dragon confused. “As you figured out, I am a water dragon. Now you have that power. You can control water now. The only reason you can do this is because you are apart of the prophecy, along with these other dragons. You will train them all, over come obstacles with them, receive all of the bites, and become one with the creature that is the dragon.” I sat there, taking it all in. “I will not disappoint anyone. I will fulfill the prophecy.” I responded. “Good, now let's go home. But do not share this with anyone without my permission.” Isaac commanded. I nodded and hopped on his back. I watched the six dragons lower their necks and return into the forest. Sure enough the trees and the pedestals sunk back into the ground. Water took it's rightful place back in the lake and all went back to normal. Today was an eventful day.
